GKAmom,
yeah, I've been a fan of RDJ since Chaplin. Amazing talent. The Stark character was starting to piss me off in Ironman 2, but I like what they did with him in 3. Seems to be back on the jerk track in Age of Ultron but I agree with you re the sense of humor. Joss Whedon saves some of the best lines for Stark/RDJ ("Please be secret door. Please be secret door. Please be secret door. [Finds secret door.] Yay!." and of course "Hit me in the back? Dick move, Banner."
I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. In terms of performance, I really like Tom Hiddlestone's Loki, both in the Thor and the Avenger films. But I think Chris Hemsworth utterly kicks ass as Thor in the two Avenger films, but oddly not so much in the Thor movies.
The dialogue is a lot better in the Avengers and Hemsworth is so good at the rolling Shakespearean (one could also say Shatneresque) delivery:
"The gates of hell are filled with the screams of his victims...ah, but not the screams of the dead, of course. No, ah, wounded screams! Mainly whimpering, a great deal of complaining and tales of sprained... deltoids and, ahhhh, gout."
At this stage, the character I like best is Steve Rogers/Captain America. The first movie was okay, and he wasn't really prominent in 1st Avengers, but in Winter Soldier, I love how he won't compromise his values even though, in the present day, that makes him a subversive. The following exchange made me want to stand up and cheer in the theatre.
Nick Fury: After New York, I convinced the World Security Council we needed a quantum surgeon threat analysis. For once we're way ahead of the curve.
Steve Rogers: By holding a gun at everyone on Earth and calling it protection.
Nick Fury: You know, I read those SSR files. Greatest generation? You guys did some nasty stuff.
Steve Rogers: Yeah, we compromised. Sometimes in ways that made us not sleep so well. But we did it so the people could be free. This isn't freedom, this is fear.
Nick Fury: S.H.I.E.L.D. takes the world as it is, not as we'd like to be. And it's getting darn near past time for you get with that program, Cap.
Steve Rogers: Don't hold your breath.
So I'm really looking forward to Civil War next year to see how this continues to play out. And Guardians 2 in 2017. I enjoyed the first one a lot, hope they can keep the momentum going.
Oh, and if you find yourself needing a well built men fix before these films come out, might I suggest English Premier League (NBCSN) or German Bundesliga (Fox sports) Soccer? Truly, some of the most beautiful men on the planet (both these leagues have players from all over the world).
