Advanced Lyme Test

I would be curious to hear if anybody had any thoughts around the advanced lyme test. In addition to the Igenex labs, I am being sent across border to take get blood drawn as it apparently seeks to actually test for borrelia vs. the antibody. It is another 1k basically to have this test done and they will have a readout in 10 days if there is active borrelia and then you pay more if it is negative and you want them to continue growing the culture (which sounds odd). I have read that it is a newer test that Burrascano has co-developed but there is a ton of controversy and cdc warnings about it but that is nothing new to this illness. Have others done this test?

I read about this recently. It was Burrascano working with Advanced Labs to develop a culture test that would positively identify live Lyme. The impression I got was that it was a recent development. i thought there was an interview with Burrascano.

I got the impression that it was more advantageous to use it to see if Lyme had been eradicated from the body when you thought treatment was done. I don't remember what gave me that idea. I don't remember it being specifically mentioned as a diagnostic for Lyme. Maybe because it could take too long of a time for the culture to show positive. With a new infection, you would want to treat right away.

The length of time was because the bacteria has a month long reproductive rate and it could take time to grow enough bacteria to "see" it in the culture. The extra money for them continuing to grow the culture was to store it and keep checking it for 2 or 3 more months because it could take that long to see something on the culture. That maybe why I got the impression it was intended for use to see if the bacteria was gone. I don't remember the 10 day thing being mentioned, but it could have been in there or I could have read something else.

Astroman, what do you think of the test itself though? I haven't read much on it yet - partly because I haven't gone looking.
