Your opinion on bite photos (posting for a friend) TIA!

A friend of mine has gained awareness about LD since my daughter started treatment for it in June.

Oh July 9th her daughter was bit on her leg (by something, unknown). Today (13 days later) the bite on her leg got much worse and a very oddly shaped rash appeared on her hand. She has seen her family MD today and 1 ER DR - both didn't seem too concerned... prescribed her 7 days of ceftin.

Can you please look at the photos posted below and let me know what your thoughts are? My daughters "bullseye" was round... wondering if any of you have seen positive LD with a rash similar to this one? I am going to give her LLND information just in case but just curious for your expertise opinions!

Hi Lymefight, I cant say for certain they are lyme rashes or not, but I def see where the concern is coming from as to me they are not the norm of bug bite rashes Ive seen.


Please take these things in consideration:

-A lyme rash does not always have to be "bullseye" and round. They present differently depending on what part of the body it is formed(or where the bite was). My treatment was actually delayed because of this....I had an 'oval' rash on the side of my body so I didnt think I could have lyme since it wasnt exactly bullseye. Eventually later on I found out it was lyme as I saw my exact oval rash pic on google images.

-So, please go to google and type in "Lyme rash", hit search, and then hit the IMAGES tab so you can see all the lyme rashes that come up and do some comparing to the rashes that are on your friends daughters hand & leg.

-Lastly, does your friends daughter's rashes itch? They say lyme rashes usually do *not* itch.

Doesn't look like a borrelia bite to me, but it certainly looks like she got something bad. The leg I can explain, but not the hand.

It's really hard to tell.

It could be ringworm, chiggers (depending on where you live), etc.

Are there many ticks in your area? Do you know if there were ticks associated with the rash?

Was there a bite mark in the middle?

That first picture is pretty clear about it having a red center, some slight clearing and then a red ring - it certainly doesn't have to be a perfect circle!! Reminds me of this cartoon: /plus.google.com/103033672158585130609/posts/A65aMoBb9wu

And you can see by these pictures that the bulls eye rash certainly doesn't have to be a perfect circle in real life either:

And so many more insects than just ticks can pass these infections on to us, like mosquitoes, biting flies, spiders and more.

There is also a ton of information available for a person to be diagnosed with a rash other than a "perfect" bulls eye as well.

I agree with the campaign "treat the bite", especially since I was only 7 years old when my misery started with these infections - I never even got the rash with RMSF, but it was confirmed that I had it! /sites.google.com/site/getitrighttreatthebite/

It's simply not worth the risk of yet one more child having to grow up with these symptoms and these infections slowly destroying their life like it did mine - believe me. I missed out on college, a career of my choice, even working (I haven't been able to hold a job since about 1989 - I was only in my mid 20's at that point.)

I encourage you to get those parents to take that child to an ILADS trained LLMD for a proper evaluation - and remind them to take those pictures along!!!

Yes, Margaret - there has been evidence of this:
"Lyme disease has recently received a new definition. It now refers to illnesses transferred by insects, as opposed to simply a tick-borne disease. Mosquitoes can carry Lyme disease and many other serious infections, as can spiders, fleas and mites."

Ok, the wording is a little confusing. I'm going to do more research into this.

Perhaps it's insects that bite as opposed to sting?

What about wasps? I doubt bees do, seeing as they are used for Apitherapy.

Klinghardt is the only person who mentions spiders that I can find.

Spiders don't usually transmit vector borne diseases, though I might be wrong!

Any insect that carries vector borne diseases can transmit Lyme, from what I could gather. So that does include mosquitoes, fleas, biting flies, etc.

Ok. Well, I hope you're having a good dinner!

Neither of those links says that spiders transmit Lyme. The NIH article says that br. recluse bites can be confused with tick bites, so I don't really know what that means.

This is an interesting topic that should be opened to discussion, so that we can be aware of exactly which insects transmit lymes, esp. since many of us seem to keep getting Lyme over and over.

LOL! Thank you!! I did, I did!! I got to eat gluten free waffles and some sausage - quite a feat without being able to chew!!! LOL!

I included that study because it shows that the tick bite can become necrotic just like a Brown Recluse spider bite making it indistinguishable from one.

And the Rense article is by By Patricia Doyle, PhD.

And considering bed bugs can transmit at minimum Rickettsia (like RMSF), Bartonella, and Anaplasmosis, it's not such a stretch to think that spiders can as well, especially since a LLMD like Dr. K is saying it too. He's been right on a lot of his "radical" ideas about these infections.

LOL! Nope!!! 5 weeks now. I'm still too swollen around the posts to use the denture. A very interesting diet though!! Giggle! smilewinkgrin
