Lyme Treatment (Afraid of tinnitus)

I've had tinnitus for about two years, a little after my lyme started from a loud concert (or it could be a combination of lyme and the concert). I just recently found out I've got lyme, and I've been taking a low dose (100mg) of Doxy every day. After only about 4 days, the tinnitus is getting louder.


Unfortunately, I can not live like this. I can not risk making the tinnitus louder, it is one symptom I honestly barely habituated to and to cause more permanent damage would be devastating. I'm also on the buhner herbs and banderol extract. Are there any Antibiotics that are less prone to cause this side effect? Rocephin maybe? Doxy, even though being seen as not really ototoxic, has a very strong correlation with tinnitus if you do research. I really hope that this increase in sound isn't permanent. In fact, I'm extremely depressed at how loud its getting now.

Part of me wants to stop the medication, but the other part of me is slurring his speech and sounds like a complete idiot because of the lyme (I hope its lyme and not ms / als) and needs a cure. Please if anyone has advice or has been in this situation. I don't know what to choose or how to approach this. I've heard the buhner herbs don't even kill the lyme, how long before I'd even notice improvement on them alone?

How about trying minocycline?

I also read that the higher the dose of antibiotics, the more chance of developing it.

I don't think tinnitus is a herx... I've had for over four years now, regardless of whether or not I'm actively taking something Rx or alternative supplement.

Tinnitus sucks.

st0rch, my husband also experienced Tinnitus after attending a loud rock concert. Interesting that this happened to both of you. It was at least a couple of years before testing positive for Lyme. I often wonder if the infection triggered the loud ringing. Maybe that's a long shot. Anyway, it's actually gotten worse this month.

I developed tinnitus when I tried andrographis. Literally the next day.

I've had my fair share of issues with tinnitus and treatment over the past couple years. I got tinnitus a few summers ago from working in a factory next to a noisy conveyor belt. As soon as I figured out I had lyme, I was very worried like you that meds would make my tinnitus worse. I got to a point where I felt so awful from lyme, bart, and babesia that I decided I had to take the meds.

I know everyone is different, but doxy, ceftin, and biaxin did not make my tinnitus worse. Minocycline, malarone, artemisinin, and azithromycin all made it worse.

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) and acetyl-l-carnitine (ALCAR) protect the cilia from free radical damage, magnesium is also important. You can find lots of info about them on the web.
