I'm looking for persons who have had luck with Canadian MDs not NDs. Also, luck with GPs here in Canada please I'm looking for positive stories.

You dont' want a ND because you want the appointment's covered with our healthcare plan?

There is apparently an MD in Alberta that is supposed to be LL but he is a 9 month wait.

You do know that there are ND's in BC who are LL and treat with antibiotics - if that's the reason you are looking for an MD.

Oh, there is a LLMD in BC - but he operates outside of the healthcare system, so his appointments are very expensive...and i believe he is the one who does the somewhat 'controversial' protocol - the Marshall protocol - which involves lowering Vit.D levels.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any LLMD's in Ontario.

Dr y in Barrie is as good as any LLND. He made the choice to study with Dr k in Seattle rather than the ILADS conf. I know it is just a matter of time before he gets his LL designation. He is very knowledgeable, does Cowden, Buhner and Dr k protocols. Most of all he cares and understands what we go through. I have referred many to him. Good luck finding a LLMD.... Don't think we have one.

No it's not that I want our health care system to pay for my treatment. It's that they should pay for our treatment! I got Lyme in Ontario and I pay enough for my "free" health care. The system should be treating me and I'm not going to an ND.

Sorry, but you won't find a MD to treat you in Ontario.

They are constrained by the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons into following the CDC guidelines or face expulsion. They are not permitted to use long term antibiotic in the treatment of lyme. They generally don't recognize any of the coinfections.

Seriously, if you need to remain in Ontario, you should seek the help of a ND.

You can buck the system all you want, but it will get you nowhere.

Hi, I am from north of Toronto...i've had to seek treatment in NY state. I tried and tried to find an MD in Ontario to help, with negative results. All of us Canadians agree that this should be covered, but sadly, it is not. You are going to have to travel south of the border to see a LLMD.

Unfortunately, it makes no difference what any of us think about the health care and what they should pay for. I'm in the US, and I have health insurance I pay for every single month - and yet I'm told that teeth are not medically necessary, so in order to have some - even though I have enough bone loss in my lower jaw to have the oral surgeons I see all highly concerned that I will one day wake up with a broken jaw - I must pay completely out of pocket for any kind of procedure.

Believe me, waiting until the health care systems recognize the need for these things to be covered will likely result in both of us being long gone from this earth!!

Please don't wait. I wasn't diagnosed for 40 years - and these infections will absolutely suck the life right out of life!! I've lost all kinds of things due to these infections, and the only thing I get is that doctors around here sent me home to die rather than have a Lyme patient in their office - even though I wasn't looking for Lyme treatment from them.

You're mad about this? You should be!! We all should be, so heal and help us fight this!!

There is a Dr A. in Ottawa who treats Lyme patients, though I think it's more natural treatment rather than abx. Sadly, I think you will have to travel out of province to see a LLMD. This is the direction I think I am headed. I just need to figure out if I want to start herbal treatment and stop the abx. Let's see what the LLND says.

It's a sad state of affairs for Ontarians who need abx treatment longer than 4 wks. I look forward to that day when things change positively for Ontario Lyme patients and LLMD's are easily accessible in the province.

And to help put it into perspective, here in the US, there are many states that don't have LLMD's either. My state, Arkansas doesn't and I'd have to travel at least 8 hours one way (16 hrs round trip) to the nearest one.

It didn't stop me, and many others from finding our own healing though - I hope it doesn't stop you. Believe me, it's not worth it.

I am angry, I'm very angry!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 I plan on getting well and fighting for treatment. I have found a Dr in Montreal but can't seem to get them to answer the phone for a booking. I also, have been in contact with an Dr in BC believe he's an ND. Cost of plane ride and hotel stay will come into play there. The Dr in NY that I have found and contacted are all well known. It's a matter of the Canadian dollar taking a dive which doesn't matter. I just want to make sure whomever I pick is the best. I'm not playing around with anymore Doctors.
Things are starting to change but it's just the beginning of this change. It's not right living here in Ontario that I'm even having to do all this. According to the CDC I have a false positive Lyme test therefore do not have Lyme. I have read a lot on both sides of the debate. I honestly do not know what to believe but know I need to try treatment. I have suffered to long not to at least try and see if it helps my health improve.

If it's an MD in Montreal - make sure you find out if he/she is Lyme literate and knows what he/she's doing.

Is this Dr. ILADS trained?

There are several LLND's in BC. I have two names from ILADS in the Vancouver area.

I understand your frustrations... I am in a rural area of Nova Scotia and have an LLMD in Maine. We have 3 of our 4 kiddos still at home, and our youngest has special needs. The travel is very rough. We do it (driving-- flew once) in under 48 hrs there and back so as not to not leave our little guy in the care of others too long. It's very stressful. It's terrible that we cannot be treated in our own country. :( But--we do what we have to do. It's awful, but there it is. :( Good luck in your quest!!

Alimom4 I'm so very sorry you have to go through that. I am deeply saddened after reading your post. It's not right that any Canadian has to go through that.
