Hi all, new here and recently diagnosed with Lyme through blood test (I convinced my GP to order it). I don't think there is much experience in treating it in my area though. After all I saw 5 different doctors, including ER visit, over a one-month period for "severe flu" which of course wasn't flu.

I have reviewed a lot of information in a short period of time, so forgive me and feel free to give your own (opinions!)

My GP started me on Doxy 100mg twice a day - but my reading suggests this is conservative. I don't know if my GP will increase it - I see him in 10 days. Plus I'm not sure if I am considered "early/localized" - since I didn't have a known tick bite or rash, I had whole-body symptoms before diagnosis. I also would like testing for co-infection since my presentation (first day severe aches, chills, fever, vomiting) sounds like possible babesiosis.

Any input on practitioners would be much appreciated. I have already gotten some from moderator Traveler. I plan to get copies of my medical records on Monday, and submit information to retired Dr. M in BC who does phone consults. I have also sent an email to the local ND (name sent to me by CanLyme) to find out experience with Lyme.

Yes, you are right - the doxy should be 200 mg twice daily. Maybe if you print off the Lyme Disease Treatment Guidelines - or at least the page that have the antibiotic doses - you could bring that to your GP and get an increase.

I see a LLND in Richmond - who is licensed to prescribe antibiotics. There is another LLND in Surrey.
The Victoria Lyme Group facilitator gave me a name of a ND who works in both Maple Ridge and Vernon...who has quite a lot of experience and she believes he is now ILADS trained.

The one I see in Richmond has the most experience.

Surrey and Richmond.

I have also spoken to Dr. M. here in B.C. (A very nice man)

Thank you both! I am working my way through the info you have both sent, there's a lot (which is great). Also some great stuff here - am off to check the thread about best probiotics for the money.
