herx symptom or yeast...or...?

I started minocycline mid July after 2 1/2 months off antibiotics.
Then a few weeks ago added Rifampin.

Prior to treating lyme, I had the sensation of a lump in my throat, and phlegm at the bottom of my throat.
After a few months of treatment, the phlegm went away, and the lump is gone most of the time...and when it comes back, it's only for a day or two.

So, I've had phlegm in my throat again. I seem to be herxing since I started Mino - and since Rifampin, the phlegm started.
My symptoms seem to have changed somewhat since going back on antibiotics. I'm seeing it as a good thing???

I will discuss with my LLND in a few weeks...just wanted your opinions.

Isn't it Babesia that can produce those symptoms too? Does Rifampin treat Babesia? If that's the case, then I would say that it's a herx - although a very annoying one!

Have you ever tried using Guafenesin? It's the active ingredient in Mucinex- although there are generics out now. It helped me get through with the flem thing while I was dealing with Babs.

It's a herx. Happens to me. I don't have Babs since no sweats

I'm not sure about Babesia - I stopped looking at the symptom list...as it didn't seem to fit with my symptoms...and LLND has never mentioned babs - just bart.
Rifampin doesn't treat Babs...it treats bart.

I'd need to go on anti-malarials for babs....or cryptolepis if I did Buhner (and probably a few more)

Really Janet? You get the phlegm? It's mostly just annoying...sitting at the bottom of my throat...it could have something to do with the cranial nerves?

I do have some sweats... oh dear! I guess we'll see what 'shakes' out after bart treatment...

Trav - is the Guafenesen a natural product or a Pharmaceutical? I guess I could google it....lol

It's otc. I used to buy it at Costco.

I have allergies so adding this in the mix was overkill in terms of annoying. My ND wrote a rx for me to take at night and that's helped but when I start on something new it still flares for a few days. You can also try vicks which is eucalyptus. It will help break it up.

As Jrpsf said, it's an OTC product. It helps some with heavy mucous. I've used it a lot while I was treating Babesia. If you still need to Google it, google Mucinex.

I've had that mucus thing sitting at the bottom of my throat for a while now. It's akin to post nasal drip sometimes but not all the time. It's always irritated down near my voice box. I think you know I've had this ever since I got sick 11+ months ago and its unsure whether this is babesia or yeast. This isn't a usual symptom for babesia but I've heard enough people get a constant sore throat that have it and not bart. In my case it may be yeast. I've been off the Cefdinir/Tindamax for almost a week to take another round of Coartem and my throat while not 100% is feeling better so I'm guessing its the yeast. For better or worse I go back on the abx on Wed so I'll be monitoring my progress closely and kick up some different probiotics just in case as I'm only on Floastor right now.

I developed phlegm in my throat along with a scratchy, feeling-like-I'm getting a sore throat deal when on abx for Lyme and it finally went away.

It's back as I transition to Buhner. I've used saline nasal spray and it seems to break things up a bit. It's not annoying enough for me to take Mucinex or anything.

Let's figure we're both experiencing "good" things now, Girlie. turn

Thanks everyone for helping 'troubleshoot' my problem!!

Yesterday I didn't take rifampin...and no mino in the morning...and by the evening the throat stuff was better...just had a bitter taste in my mouth...

So, took mino last night and slept pretty good, this morning, throat is good. So, I took my morning dose of mino...and am debating (in my head)...whether or not to take the rifampin.

So, it seems like it's either a herx...or a side effect of rifampin...maybe it's just hard on my stomach...it's taken on an empty stomach...which concerns me.

Maybe I'll start a new thread...and see if taking with a bit of food is okay.....We ignore the "take on empty stomach" instructions for doxy...
