Weight GAIN ~ am I the only one?

Hello everyone! I have read many posts here and countless articles about people drastically losing weight because of Lyme. I am the complete opposite but have not found much about people gaining drastic amounts of weight. That was my first {that I noticed} unexplained symptom. In 2011 {when this all began} I went to my doctor and my weight was where it always had been. When I went back in 2012 I was SHOCKED to see I had gained 15 pounds. I could not explain how or why it jumped like that. NOTHING had changed in my diet or work out routine. I could feel that my clothes were not fitting as loose as they had but they all still fit fine. I'm almost 5'3 so 15 pounds is a LOT for my height and I should not have been able to comfortably still wear my clothes. I went to my moms house and got on her scale, dug out my scale and all matched the doctors scale. Fast forward to the present. From summer 2011 to summer 2015 I have gained 59 pounds!!! in those 4 years I have been part of countless Fitbit challenge groups, done and ran countless squat challenges, have trained for the 26 mile Brest cancer walk, etc.... Nothing helps...the weight just kept going up!! I even went to my regular doctor in January for a yearly physical and had to go back in 1 week to go over results. In that week I caught a horrible stomach bug. It was so bad that I did not eat anything for 5 days. When I saw my doctor again I had gained 4 POUNDS! In 8 days, 5 of those days spent running to the bathroom and not eating anything I gained 4 pounds! I have seen an endocrinologist this year and he checked my thyroid and to see if I was pre menopausal but of course ~ all labs came back good! It is so depressing and has ripped away self esteem and confidence from me. Has anyone else gained weight because of lyme and if you have, were you able to lose the weight after you recovered?
Sorry this post is so long and I apologize if it's a rambling mess. I just can't find much info on it.

This has been asked before. It's almost as common to have significant weight gain as it is to have weight lose. Your thyroid can be insync and your body can still be holding on to the extra pounds.

You're definitely not the only one, over the last couple of years I've gained 50lbs, which is very frustrating because I had lost 92 lbs just before gaining all of this back. I worked so hard to lose the weight, only to gain much of it back...

Nope, join the club! I was very active and fit, never able to lose the last of the baby weight. Then when things really went south, I gained 30 lbs.

I started thyroid meds for low thyroid and got my levels into appropriate ranges and the weight has yet to come off.

My personal opinion is that it is a co-infection that is still lingering. All of my symptoms are Bart related and there is a lot of incidences with Bart and weight gain, especially when treating for it.

I have gained almost double my body weight. The inflammation from the lyme toxins can cause an increase in insulin without high blood sugar, it is called chronic inflammatory response syndrome and is common in lyme patients as well as mold patients. I have all normal thyroid labs and I always have had normal thyroid and I have had reverse t3 and t4 checked and they have always been low normal. I still have weight gain. There is a whole protocol for this (12 steps) a and I just started seeing a doctor for it although probably won't start treating it until Jan or Mar 2016. So no you are not alone. I never imagined I could gain this amount of weight as I was always a normal weight. There is hope though - some people have found success with HCG although the CIRS doc says that HCG doesn't work in patients with CIRS until the toxins are removed and the hormones are reset through various interventions that can take awhile. I feel your pain!!!

If I were in your situation, I would check my adrenal function with a saliva test. It sounds like your adrenals have you holding a lot of fluid.

Inflammation also keeps a lot of weight on you. In nutrition, we use navel measurements as a guide rather than weight. Weight is a tool, but the measurement is more accurate. Get a flex tape and start taking navel measurements every week or two. Find out if your adrenals are functioning properly. Losing weight will be difficult if they are faulty.
