Lyme progression & recovery linked to genetics?

I came across this article regarding a genetic link to one's ability to recover from lyme and/or the possibility of having antibiotic-resistant lyme. I don't know much about SNPedia. I've used it before to find various SNPs to help analyze my 23andMe data on Livewello.

What do you all think? I'm wondering if this is why some people get more sick than others when they're infected, and/or why antibiotics work for some and not for others.

In my opinion, they are partly right. I think genetics plays a large part of any infection or disease progress. If we have certain genetic abnormalities, we are of course, more susceptible to getting those conditions, and at times, less likely to fully recover. It explains why some people survive cancer & other things and why some don't - no matter what they do - as well.

We also know that genetic issues will prevent some people from being able to detox well too, so again, this only makes sense.

What I disagree with is their use of the studies that have been done - they only take into account ONE view of these infections - from the stand point of IDSA from what I can tell. So their studies are not really complete. I believe that when they really truly open their eyes and minds to the possibilities we as patients know exist, then we will get much more accurate articles.

Great points!

I thought it was really interesting, and I was glad that there were SNPs they had actually identified as potentially affecting lyme recovery/treatment.
