Two kids now with igenex positive babesia

My two kids tested positive Lyme IFA (>80) and also several bands on western blot--only my daughter came up Igm IND overall result by igenex standards. But BOTH very positive Babesia IFA and positive B. ducani FISH test and antibody test.

No recollection of any tick bites. I'm positive myself on Lyme IFA and some bands on WB. But I didn't do co-infections for myself. My husband had a tick attached before we had kids. We have about another two weeks to wait for his igenex screen and WB results. So......is this likely sexually transmitted?

(Son has started abx slowly, nystatin and probiotic. Daughter hasn't seen doc yet, we just got her results)

I don't know and I don't know that a doctor can give you a definitive answer. A positive test result from your husband will make it highly suspicious.

Good luck and I cannot imagine having a whole house full of lyme symptom people. How hard that has to be to deal with.

It is suspected that LD is sexually transmitted. It is found in both seminal fluids and vaginal secretions.

Can I ask what your childrens symptoms are? I am going through similar situation with all 3 of my children having 2 nonspecific lyme bands on western blot, but it was Labcorp so they could have the other bands that Labcorp does not include.

I too am positive on IFA and have bands 31, 39 IND, 41, 58, 66. My kids all have 41, and my oldest also has 66 and other two have 58.

I have no recollection of tick bite. My husband has not been tested and has no real health issues. Kids are doing pretty well with minor health things that could be normal for all I know.

With these infections being passed by even mosquitoes, it's hard to say that any one way was how your kids were infected. They could have been bitten by mosquitoes that carried the infection(s) - or it could have been sexually transmitted through you. If the same bands are positive for each of you, it would point more towards sexual transmission, although there is still no way to know for sure.

But whole families being infected is becoming more and more common as awareness becomes greater.

Since Babesia is a malarial-like infection, it would not surprise me in the least if babesia is transmitted via a mosquito bite. Lyme and Bartonella - not too sure. But with these diseases nothing surprises me. So much more research needs to be done on transmission routes of lyme, bartonella, babesia, et al. Doctors argue whether or not bartonella is transmitted in utero. I say the proof is in the pudding - entire families are sick with this disease.

There are actual PubMed articles stating that the Borrelia bacteria is found in certain mosquitoes. I've posted about it in a couple of threads recently.

K's babesia physical symptoms were non-existant until she herxed with CSA - all of her physical pain symptoms were bartonella (shin pain, headache, raging, enuresis, motor/vocal ticcing, behavioural regression, loss of fine motor ability) . The herx symptoms included air hunger, chest pressure, sighing, dry cough (especially at night) and thigh pain with exertion. K's babesia psych symptoms included ADD, decreased cognitive and executive function. These have all resolved using Buhner's babesia protocol.
