i find the following except interesting and would love to hear the board's thoughts:

"Malaria medications should be examined but not blindly added. I do not find any evidence that doxycycline, minocycline, clarithromycin, azithromycin, or sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (Bactrim) kills Babesia."

Is he saying they don't kill it by itself and need to be added with something else (e.g. Zithro/Mepron) or that they really don't work at all? I can't imagine its the former since a front line treatment for a long time was Zithro/Mepron.

My understanding is not that you take azithromycin and clarithromycin to kill babesia, it's to help the Mepron (or whatever malaria med you are using) work better and to prevent resistance. So if that's what he's saying it's nothing new.

I couldn't find one mention of this. Are you sure you are looking at the right article? The article Rowingmom linked to was about Bartonella. And the one that Rikky linked to was about Babesia.

So I googled speckled type anaplasma and still didn't come up with anything. Maybe if you explain it a bit, I can help you?

The ANA in this case is Anti-Nuclear Antibodies, not Anaplasma...

Speckled type has to do with the appearance of the antibodies on the Anti-Nuclear Antibody test (a test used to diagnose certain autoimmune diseases such as Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis).

Is the ANA you mention the one listed in K's signature line?

If so, the ANA (antinuclear antibody) test gives an indication of autoimmune response linked with collagen degradation. Speckled type is one response indicative of lupus or sjogren's.

In K's case, I believe she was positive because of the damage done to her collagen tissues by lyme. She tested with negative ANA titers after bartonella/lyme treatment.

ANA doesn't refer to anaplasma.
