Positive IgM after starting treatment, good or bad thing? Anyone else?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask....has anyone received a posotive IgM Borrelia test after starting treatment having received a negative one before starting it? That just happened to me, although the doctors say it's a false positive (YEAH, RIGHT......) Anyways, we all know how this goes. I have been taking herbs and some flagyl and now I get this positive test....do any of you know if that's a good or a bad sign? I have no clue! Plus I can't find anyone to whom it happened! Thank you!

No, that's not a false positive. I was in treatment for a full year before I was able to get a fully CDC positive WB. What's going on is that Lyme inhibits or reduces the immune function, so it can't produce the antibodies the tests are designed to look for. They simply forgot to take that into consideration when creating these tests - but that's because they were never designed to be used for diagnoses, only for tracking how the bacteria spread.

So it's a good sign, as it means that your immune system is starting to function at a high enough level to produce those antibodies.
