No herx reaction on my treatment

Im in fourth week of my therapy consisting of Minocycline 200 mg + Azitro 500 mg + metronidazole 500mg ( pulsing), but no herx or any other reaction. I was actually on 9 months of therapy before and my LLMD decided it was enough so we finished it in January. I was left with knee pain and muscle twitches, so in December I went to see another LLMD who put me on this treatment. But now we are both in wonder due to fact that we don't have any herx or reaction to this

dont forget zoner, i was left with shoulder pain and twitches, and have been off antibiotics for over a year. do be careful with treating if it really isnt necessary! I understand how tricky it can be though, bc you are probably wondering if the leftover knee pain could be due to lyme or just nerve damage/inflammation

While I'm happy to hear you're no longer herxing, these situations are annoyingly perplexing.

Would you kindly refresh my memory, Zoner, as to what infection(s) you were diagnosed with and treated for?

And, how long were you ill before you started treatment? Have you taken anything for biofilm?

The other thing you may wish to try is herbals. Many find that they have no response to the pharma abx, but when they try herbals, they herx pretty good. No herxing surely doesn't mean it's not working though - it could mean that your detox pathways are working a lot better than most of the rest of us.

The one thing I surely don't ever want to deal with is a relapse due to not treating enough. I've been sick long enough, thank you! This doesn't mean staying in treatment forever, but I need to be sure that I've healed.

I'd also like to know how long you were sick before starting treatment and what infections you treated.

...and what your protocols were.

I was bitten in April 2014, and by June every single symptom you can imagine was there, I could barely walk. I actually took doxy 6 days after the bite, for a whole month but I obly kept getting worse. I was then on various atb therapy from june to january 2015., with symptoms going away one by one.

Regarding the protocol: 14 days of IV cefriaxone, followed by doxy, amoxi, azitro, cedax during the following 9 months

Thanks for expanding on your timeline and treatment.

There is one vital piece of information missing before I am comfortable sharing my thoughts.

What was your diagnosis? Lyme? Babesia? Bartonella, etc.?

Based upon your treatment, it looks like you've been treated for Lyme all along. It's very important for us to know your diagnosis because Babesia and Bartonella require different types of treatment.

It's not uncommon for people to have asymptomatic Babesia and/or Bartonella infections. If they are left untreated, they can impede healing from Lyme.

We have several members on here (including me) who are dealing with that exact scenario and we are finally healing now that we are treating for those possible asymptomatic infections.

Not to mention that some people just don't heal on abx. Some require herbs along with or herbs/natural treatments only. I know one gal that has tried every option except Essential Oils - and when she finally tried them, it is finally helping her.

When I read that you are left with knee pain and muscle twitches....I wonder if it is Bartonella.

Knee pain (not bad) and muscle twitches have been two of my symptoms.
During lyme treatment, my muscle twitches were about 90-95% resolved, and knee pain was about the same.

Then after 9 1/2 months treating lyme plus a 2 1/2 month break in treatment...I started seriously treating Bartonella with antibiotics...and then adding in Buhner's herbs.
Rifampin (commonly used to treat bart) was added to my protocol end of August, reaching full dose beginning of September.
In October...my left knee all of a sudden got very sore - I couldn't even bend my knee...I had to walk with that leg straight....it slowly got better...it is now about 80% better.
Also, my twitches that were almost gone came back during the time that my knee got worse.

Initially...I had some bad thoughts...that I was getting worse instead of better.

But, now I'm thinking that Bart is the cause of those symptoms...and the increase...was perhaps a herx.

My knees feel pretty good again...and my twitches seem to be moving to different areas. last couple of weeks my twitches were on the left side of my mid-back (rib area) - today it is my right calf area.

I encourage you to check out co-infections and see what happens when you treat.

Forgot to say: Mino plus azithro may not be enough to treat the bartonella.

Many of us are on a tetracycline paired with a macrolide for lyme...but still have bart to treat after.

It could be bart, I have never tested it. How long do you take rifampin for it?

Well, according to Dr. MR (Seattle) - 4-6 months to treat Bart with Rifampin - but I can tell you after reading many threads on bart treatment (on this forum) - that is not often the case - many have to treat longer than that.

I started Rifampin end of August - was at full dose on Sept. 5th. So that is 4 months...I'm not there yet...and it's doubtful i will be in the next two months...if I am..it would be a nice surprise.

It can be paired with minocycline, doxycycline, azithromycin, clarithromycin.
