So if you have read any of my posts you'll know that it has been a completely sucky year (but we still have 3 months to go).
My daughter just got side swiped by someone trying to move over into her lane. It was bumper to bumper traffic and he decided he needed to cross lanes. He didn't look and just moved over going so fast he managed to take out most of her driver's side.
So this is a new used car. In early December she was in another accident. The other driver was at fault, but since she was turning left she was cited. The other girl was speeding and on her phone. The girl driving an Altima hit my daughter's Jeep Grand Cherokee (a tank basically) so hard that my daughter's car spun in a full circle before going another 30 ft and a quarter turn. Both cars were totaled and my daughter's engine was all over the road. Because the girl was hurt we are now waiting for them to sue us. She was driving another person's car and as far as we can tell, she was uninsured. Oh and the minimum for bodily injury insurance coverage is $10,000. Did I mention my insurance company and I are at war because they decided to throw us under the bus by claiming 100% liability even though we told them the other girl was at fault and the police report was fiction. We are covered for $100,000 bodily injury but apparently the girls's lawyer thinks we are worth more. The insurance company just sent them a check for $100,000 without a release of Liability. Gets them off the hook.
So today my daughter is on her way home from dropping her boyfriend off at the airport. He is going home to Denmark to finish school. Yes, Denmark.
The traffic was bumper to bumper and some guy on her left realized he was in the wrong lane and tried to move right even though my daughter was already occupying the same space. We have only owned the car for 6 weeks. The other driver didn't want to exchange information. He said "looks about the same amount of damage so lets call it even." Wrong. He hit her and got a scrape. Her driver's side door won't even open and the rear tire might be damaged. When she said they needed to call the cops because it was more than $1000 damage, he left.
She drove home because she had no battery left on her phone and didn't have a charger. She called the cops and they are making her drive back to the spot it happened. After this we get to deal with the insurance company, oh joy. After the guy left, she realized that the sheet of paper she photographed with the insurance information didn't have the insurance policy number on it.
So we just figured out that this is the third time in one year there has been a problem with cars in a year. She moved down there with a temporary job January 2015. While he was sleeping in her room, a drunk driver hit her parked car. He actually ran off the road and into the parking lot of an extended stay motel and hit her car.
My daughter hasn't even had the hearing for the accident in December and now this. She may have to pay a fine for the accident in December (beyond the $166 citation) and could have her license suspended. She can apply for a hardship license which allows her to drive to work, school, church and the grocery store but heaven knows what will happen now.
I'm sitting here waiting for her to call me back and tell me how things went with the cops.
Why me?
