Should I Be Tested For Lyme

I am new to the forum and writing this in hopes of getting some advice on whether I should be tested for Lyme. I have had these symptoms for about a year some are constant and some come and go.

Weight loss
Fatigue
Hair loss
Body temp issues.... can't seem to get warm
Low buzzing noise
Skin is often itchy
Crawling/stabbing sensations
Cherry angiomas on abdomen
Red pin prick type rash on abdomen which has started moving down legs
Right shoulder pain for last 6 months(recently found out it is a torn tendon)
Eye pain with pressure behind the eyes

I'm in just about the same boat you are. I got bit by a ton of ticks two years ago.

Had weird crap happening to me on and off.

I had this problem where i was really itchy all over my body. No rash or anything, even went to the doctor for it. They said they didn't know.

I'm going to the doctor friday to be tested. If that comes back negative i might fork over the 200 bucks for the Igenex test.

I saw my GP yesterday and he said "When I can't pinpoint the sickness, I order a Lyme test". I applauded him immensely for that. My point is if odd things are happening health-wise, especially symptoms that come and go, get a test. I wish I did when I felt "off" for months.

I had strange things happen with my skin too only certain areas got really sensitive, to the point where I could barely shave.

Why not rule it out?

Welcome to our community, Cozy54!

I'm glad you found us here...as I think you could have Lyme disease. That's quite a list of symptoms to have...so it sounds like a systemic issue.

You could start out with the lyme testing that your insurance covers via your regular Dr.

If it turns out negative (as it often does), you could opt to try the best lab for testing lyme disease - Igenex Lab in California. You can order the test kit from them...and have a Dr. sign the lab req. , have a blood draw and send it to Igenex via Fedex.

Also, you could make an appointment with a LLMD and have him/her evaluate you for Lyme disease. LLMD's are the 'experts' in the field of Lyme Disease.

Thanks for all of your input. Unfortunately my family doc hasn't been very helpful so I think my best bet is to try and find a LLMD! So if anyone knows of a good LLMD in NC send the name my way!

Cozy - We can help you find a LLMD. You can start a new thread titled: "Looking for LLMD in NC"

Then enable your email option so members can send you names. We don't post the names of the LLMD's for privacy reasons.

Also,in addition to recommendations from forum members, you can also contact ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) Physician Referral.

Here are some more options for finding a LLMD:

You can send me an email by clicking on my screen name or the small blue envelope under my screen name. I may have contact information for some LLMD's in your area as well.​ ​Please include your state (or province) and area that you would like to find a LLMD in and I will be happy to share the names I have.​


You can email the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance at [email protected]​ for LLMD referrals and you can go to ​tbdalliance.org​​ to learn more about these infections.


You can go to The Lyme Disease Association and search for LLMD's 3 times in a month. You have to register first. Here is the link:
