Watched Yolanda on Dr. Oz

I have to admit that I am the worse person to watch tv. I have never seen beverly hills housewives and I think dr. oz I have only once and it was because of something I have long forgotten.

I cried. Yolanda is so sincere and real and she stated our story so eloquently.

I hope more hear and understand our plight.

I liked how he held her hand and put his hand on her shoulder. He KNEW this was not easy for her to come on tv and be exploited even more than the tabloids have been to her.

I also like that she said lyme has given her patience.

In my house when everyone is watching a movie the music will change and the whole house looks my way because they know I am crying. I cry at Hallmark commercials and I cannot watch commercials about starving kids or hurt animals..... I would be so totally broke giving to each cause

I love her! I never watched her in anything before till this episode. But I love her attitude and outlook, even when those other catty women from the housewives shamed her she showed such strength.

They did not have time for everything. I wish they could have had better questions. I thought the 3 questions that the audience asked were not what I would have asked.

Yes and I was curious if those people from audience had lyme or something else. I would have liked to hear more medical questions and particulars about her symptoms and treatment too, but that show seems to be more like half medical half drama entertainment.

Lyme PTSD keeps me from watching the good interviews - and I just can't afford to get all weirded out now.

I'm really glad that she's out there, being so open about it all. It's past time someone in the headlines was! May she honestly turn some hearts softer with her experience.

She's documented some of her treatment on Real Housewives. She's done treatments all over the world including stem cell. She's done abx's and herbs. On the show they showed a shelved double closet filled with meds and supplements and a wall of big post it notes filled with the different drugs and herbs she has taken.

I watched most of it (a friend called to tell me it was on) and was really disappointed in the lack of substance.

But I did find it very interesting that after all the treatments she pursued the turnaround came after removing the leaky breast implants i.e. removing a source of toxins. Among other things that were not addressed was MTHFR mutation which I would bet money she has given the predominance of chronic Lyme sufferers who have that mutation that inhibits their ability to remove toxins from their body.

So how much of our illness is the bacteria and how much is overload of toxins? And are antibiotics, anti fungals, other pharmaceuticals just an additional toxin? I say this as someone who is currently on a whole bunch of all of the above. Would we better off going through the kind of all out detox treatment that is given to people who are exposed to radiation or chemical spills?

I don't know. It just continuously frosts my butt that there is no comprehensive research effort being made to really understand what chronic lyme is, what causes the symptoms. Especially given the attention and money being thrown at Zika. And guess what? Those birth defects are related to the fact that the mothers lived in area where an insecticide designed to disturb larval (insect equivalent of fetal) development is in constant use. No birth defects in neighboring countries where there is Zika. Oh, but look, there's a Zika vaccine ready to go. Gosh, think there is a connection?

At this point based on the work of many LLMDs pretty much operating in isolation and by trial and error, we know that just killing the bug doesn't result in a cure. And in killing the bugs, we get the side effect of more inflammation and more cytokines, which worsen symptoms. And the merry go round continues.

Yes, understanding and treatments are better than they were 10 years ago, but it is all so haphazard. Greater sympathy for sufferers is nice, but what's needed is an Apollo program type allocation of resources to finding a cure. Hell, we don't even get an AIDS level of attention or resources. If the President having Lymes (and wasn't that kept quiet--anybody know what treatments Bush got? Bet it wasn't 2 weeks of doxy) didn't kickstart anything, I don't know what it will take.

Sorry for the downer rant. Just very frustrated at the moment.

I understand your frustration.

Have you ever read Buhner's books? He writes extensively about the effects these infections have on our bodies and how they drive our symptoms.

He also explains how we can do things to make the body inhospitable to the bugs.

Since every human is walking around with disease bacteria and not sick from a lot of it, it makes sense that we could create a state of balance in our bodies as far as these infections are concerned.

Buhner's (somewhat paraphrased) healing philosophy makes a lot of sense to me:

1. Support collagen structures so that damage to the body systems ceases;
2. Enhance immune function so that the body can deal with the organism itself;
3. Shut down the inflammatory pathways the spirochetes initiate, especially in the CNS;
4. Treat symptoms;
5. And only then, try and kill the bugs.
