Blood pressure stabilized with treatment

Prior to being diagnosed and beginning treatment, my blood pressure was mysteriously uncontrollable and high (190/90) even on BP medicine!!!. It was so disturbing and scary at the time since I'm a 30 year old male and physically in pretty good shape (6'2'' 215 at the time) (now 195 bc of diet change). Since being in treatment for 5 months now my BP has completely normalized to 120/80.

My question is how is this linked to these infections and why do they cause that? Are our arteries inflamed with infection that lead to the high BP?

I'm so happy to hear that your BP is now stabilized at a lower rate! Congrats!

Yes, Bartonella is particularly at play for most who have high BP usually. Bart inflames the artery walls, causing them to swell, making it harder (& requiring more force) to push the blood through.

Traveler doesn't inflaming the artery walls causing the heart to beat harder to push more blood through result in low blood pressure? At least that's what's happening to me. Or can it go both ways?

Hmmmm, I'm stumped on that one! Although, I don't think inflamed artery walls would lower blood pressure, as when a person is setting up pipes for water, in order to have higher pressure, you reduce the size of the pipe. Same idea with the arteries.

I do know that Lyme can create low blood pressure, but I'm not sure on the "how" part. I've now officially dealt with both. No fun.

Traveler- thanks!! My thought process was on the right track.

This does give me a confidence boost in the fact that treatment is working. What a slow, slowwww, SLOW process this is. My patience level will be untouchable when this is all over!

Completely agreed on how slow the healing process is!! It can be very frustrating, but I hate the alternative even more (trying to live with the infection).

So far my grandkids can try my patience, but that's about all!! LOL! Oh, except willfully ignorant doctors - they will always get on my nerves!!!

You're right. Lately I've been telling myself, just think, you could still be suffering not even knowing what is wrong (very stressful and worrying time for me that was)

At this point, I know exactly what is wrong and I'm being treated appropriately. I'm grateful.

Since having Lyme, my ejection fraction dropped and my BP too went sky high (at times, hypertensive crisis). Since starting treatment, my BP has come down tremendously and is staying fairly consistent

I think this symptom should be more well known and just another big red flag for people with suspected Lyme.

I took blood pressure medicine for months prior to knowing what was actually wrong.

My Dr still has me on the BP meds, but just as a precaution, but the lowest dose. My BP had been shooting up to over 200/100 before treatment. Prior to getting ill, I never had BP issues :( The meds brought it down a little, but after starting lyme meds, it dropped to where it should be and my ejection fraction came back up...so I blame Lyme.

So, yes, I agree with you, should be a flag if it becomes a sudden symptom
