I'm not meaning to argue, but I'm not sure the science behind a low carb and candida minimization isn't all there...Personally I followed a high fat, high protein, almost zero carb 50g or less per day for over 6 years. All the while my candida remained ever present. 6 years no candida cured! Nothing. Hence, I began researching what exactly causes candida.
From what I can gather it seems candida grows as a result of high blood glucose. When levels get and remain too high candida starts to flourish. Now do carbohydrates really cause candida? Or does excessive fat leading to insulin resistance causing high blood glucose? Why is the staple food of every civilization, present time and past times, a....starch. Not meat, not fat, but some sort of starch; maize, corn, rice, wheat, oats, etc. You would think if excessive carbs cause candida then the Asia contentient (who eat rice breakfast, lunch, and dinner) would be on a constant prescript
ion of diflucan...
In reality high blood glucose causes candida, not carbohydrates. Yes, in a sick body carbs cause blood sugar spikes feeding candida, but the only way to cure a sick body is to stop fat intake, all together. Fat is a condensed food, overt fats are man made. Carbs from oats, rice, beans, corn, maize are not. These are planet's Earth's foods, natural so to speak. To stop eating foods from the Earth would mean death. But to stop eating foods made or condensed by man would not mean death.
In order to properly cure candida we need to improve our insulin sensitivity to keep normal daily blood sugars without spikes. In order to do this all fake fats, must be eliminated.
Doctor Max Gerson used this technique in curing cancer. No where in his protocol does he say to stop carbohydrates or even limit them. Not once. In fact, the juices are high sugar content (massive amounts of carbs) and he cures cancer on a regular basis! He does however, go on to point out that zero fats are tolerated and allowed on the Gerson therapy for very good reason, too.
Anyways, before you go out and believe what everyone says about
low carb diet, think twice. I did this for 6 years with only temporary improvement. The instance I had more than 100 g of carbs my symptoms came rearing back and I'm sure you've experienced the same. Treat the cause not the symptom and the cause is insulin desenstivity, basically pre-diabetic and diabetic. There is also research in heavy metal buildup and candida...
If Doctor Gerson can cure cancer using carbs (oats) and sugar juices (apple orange juice) in very sick patients which most surely have a blood sugar issue then certainly carbs are not the problem.
I'd advice some reading on 'The Starch Solution' and 'The Gerson Therapy' both have great insight to disease and proper diet to address disease and both use a sort of High Carb, Low Fat approach (HCLF). The diet of our ancestors.
I've not heard of one person who actually felt good on a high protein, high fat diet which was on the diet for more than 6 months. The first 3 months are absolutely brilliant, but when the body runs in a ketogenic state for long periods of time it becomes even more sick. It is a survival mechanism to use ketones, not the way to cure oneself...
Anyways, I'm just trying to bring some fresh ideas out. Low carb is not an ideal diet for a sick person. Really it isn't, it's almost logical to think this way. If we truely had systemic candida then we would all be dead.
Treat the cause not the symptom and carbs are not the cause...
