I know many of us use essential oils for various reasons (not just healing from Lyme).
My DIL has just started investigating the possibility of using essential oils to help with my grandson who is having a horrible time with teething.
Any and all suggestions/information anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all who post!!

I am very leery of essential oils for a baby. I think 2 years old is okay, but those oils are pretty darn powerful.
I always did the massage. Just hold the poor wee one and in went my finger and I massaged the gum to help that toofie break through.
Anything the babe wants to put in their mouth to ease the pain. Samantha loved a spoon because it was metal and cold but she freaked me out because she would gag herself putting it in wrong or too far back. But she loved that cold metal spoon.
Ice. Can't give it to a baby and I am not a fan of kids chewing on plastic - yuck. They have those food socks (that's what I called them) and I would put in a frozen teething biscuit and let them chow on those. Cade and Gage both loved the teething biscuit. Syndey and James both loved a frozen apple slice in that sock thing. Messy as heck, but who cares - the babe needs some comfort.
Hylands makes teething gel - I have never used it. Boiron makes a homeopathic medicine - I have never used it.
I was a big fan of happy distraction when they were teething. Kids love to pour things and a bowl of flour and 2 cups, they can make a nice mess and be happy - outside! Flour cleans up easy outside or in a bathtub.

Thanks for your input PeteZa!
I didn't think essential oils were for little ones but my DIL read about
some used on the feet (in a carrier oil, of course and a micro dose).
My DIL has used methods similar to the ones you described for his daytime issues....it's the nighttime that is proving problematic - he's not sleeping and they both work full-time.
She was using the Hylands teething tablets and I'm not sure why she's looking for anything otherwise (we couldn't really talk last night when she mentioned it - kids were going crazy lol)
I take my hat off to you with flour - I wouldn't be able to handle the dust lol Bubbles outside works well for me lol

A nice bath in lavender bath soap. And you can put a drop of essential oil on a light bulb and it will be just enough of an aroma to lull the babe to sleep.
Me.... I got them so tired they had no problem sleeping. I would count how many times they could run to the wall and back and make it a huge game. Parents loved me!! When they got home their babies were tired.

The floured face is beyond adorable ;)
My granddaughter has the most creative fun with our patio rocks (just like yours ;)
Thanks for the reminder about
lavender oil on a light bulb!! I mentioned lavender to my DIL but totally forgot about
that option.
My grandson isn't a sleeper - blows my mind because his father was/is a sleeper. I think the kid could use more wind-down time in the evening but that just doesn't seem to happen at their house between parents arriving home from work with 2 kids fresh from day care....and a lot of stuff to accomplish before a 7:30 bedtime. It's easier at Mema's ;)
And, the visuals of you with kids is just so sweet ;)

That is Samantha and she is the love of my life wee one. I got her when she was 3 days old and we are such kindred spirits. She is 6 now and super smart. Not from me.... her dad is a orthopedic surgeon and her maternal grandfather is one too. Brains genetically but the calm spirit and happiness from me, her Nanny.

hrz - I was going to post the same. It works great for any type of tooth/gum pain.
I used it when my wisdom teeth were pulled..
What a sweetie Samantha is...and as cd said - a very lucky girl to have you in her life!

Thanks everybody!!
I don't know much about
essentials oils. The first one I bought was to diffuse. The next 8 were to make Buhner's recipe for tick repellent. lol
I'll need to remember clove and see what my DIL found out. I'm still not sure why she's shying away from the Hylands teething tablets..
