lyme Dr. encourages seeking a 'higher power' to help with Lyme disease, says its very beneficial

I just read an article by a highky esteemed and very well known Dr, who wrote a book, and who started ILADS...he says having a 'higher power' or a spiritual belief, can be quite beneficial in successful treatment.

This has been the case for me. The one and only thing thats been effective in coping with my M.S.I.D.S'S is my faith or rather belief in my 'higher power'.

Your higher power can be anything you choose. It can be a goat or a banana. It can be Jesus or Allah.

It kinda sounds like the 12 step program. Choose SOME-thing other than yourself to depend on for help with your healing...

For me personally, I choose The creator God, Jesus!!

Same here. If it weren't for my personal faith, my life would have totally fallen apart. Having received grace from Jesus makes it so much easier for me to show grace to others, including my husband, who don't understand what I'm going through. My faith also helps me keep suffering in context. Many others have endured much more than I have had to, and we have something to lean on when suffering happens.

Knowing that He has my back is a blessing and anytime I know a healthcare provider shares my faith is a comfort to me!

Did you ever ask yourself if everything has to go by God's desk before it happens then why did he let you get infected by such a horrible disease? Yeah I get the I will never leave you or forsake you and ask and you shall receive and cast all your cares on me cause I care for you, but in the midst of pain and suffering on a daily constant basis which never seems to let up where is the relief?

How many of us have asked God to just end us because we can't stand the pain anymore? One thing's for sure for most you learn through this horrible illness that you are stronger than you ever gave yourself credit for.

We had enough excitement with this yesterday, but as long as everyone can be reasonable, there's no harm in allowing this thread.

Hmm... I think it is time for me to disappear a bit from the boards.... unfortunately, although I have respect for people's spiritual practices, it is a pragmatic thing for me. Names with religious affiliations in it "ilovejesus" - no offense - but I have a history where this is a "trigger" for me. I come to this place for healing support, but when the healing support becomes a place where things are surfaced that I don't want to surface in the moment, it is time to take a break. There are people out there who have been horribly abused by "jesus people" and it can take decades to over come if not a lifetime. I am not interested in having a dialog about this because this is a place for lyme information. When it becomes a place to advertise your faith by your screen name, and this screen name triggers someone, well, the person being triggered should just politely excuse themselves... so, I think now is the time. You may not see it as advertising, but I experience it as advertising, and I don't want to be reminded when I come here of something I have worked hard to let go of. I just accept that "jesus people" aren't my path, but celebrate there are many paths and for some people, it is an awesome path. Hope it is alright to express this. Delete my comment if it is not.
