Well detecting what food you disagree with is also a major factor, for me= no real cow milk. And NEVER eat fruit after slower digesting protein, the slowed sugar can ferment = gas. Fruit first or between meals only.
Dairy is definitely a no no for me also.

Having Hashi for 19 years I can say mobility issues can be helped or eliminated with bedtime 400mg of magnessium glycinate and veggie salad at dinner- helps regularity in AM with most people. The thyroid med T3 also helps with mobility. T4 alone just does not help thyroid symptoms for many people. My mobility issues are history.
I just switched back to levothyroxine. Taking Acella, my T3 was always too high. Which caused my RT3 to shoot up occasionally. For the longest time I had folks from STTM groups tell me I needed to add more T3, and I believed them! Very dangerous information. I convert perfectly fine, but the desiccated ratio was too high for me. Adding T3 would have sent me hyper, as my thyroid had already stopped making its own T3 and started converting it to RT3.
Magnesium is great for motility issues, cant overdo it though. There are some forums that advocate much more than 400mg, and doing so will throw off potassium ratios which obviously dont want.

All things considered Leaky gut goes hand in hand with candida- more common than we think.
The gastro docs can stick it where the sun dont shine - bunch of dummies with their Rx meds that do more harm than good as far as I'm concerned. They believe NONE of the proven above info.
Candida gets a bad rap. Everyone has it. Everyone needs it. Its only when theres an overgrowth AND it escapes the digestive tract does it become a problem. Contained in the digestive tract it can be treated with diet or meds.
Wholeheartedly agree with you on gastro docs. Definitely needed, but most look at and treat gastro symptoms only. Wanna test one? Ask them what part the vagus nerve plays in your condition. Youll know in 2 seconds if its time to run or not.
