Anti-malarial have effect against bart?

Just started taking Planequil and my heart starting pounding hard for almost 12 straight hours. I'm pretty sure the heart issues are bart so I'm wondering would an anti-malarial like Planequil have effect against Bart?

That must have been very uncomfortable. It is certainly possible that the response to the Planequil could have been a herx.
Hopefully someone who has experience in this will respond.

Bart is a bacterial infection, so an anti-malarial won't have a direct effect on that infection - but what we have noticed is that by treating one infection, it can help symptoms from a different infection or make them worse (as in a herx of sorts). Often times the symptoms from other infections settle back down (just as you would expect in a herx) and sometimes they don't.

Watch your symptoms closely (heart symptoms always make me nervous!) and be sure to let your doc know what's going on. They may wish to do some more testing of some sort.

thanks traveler. i had an echocardiogram and stress test done both were normal but i also wore a holter monitor for a day and i have a few extra beats. figures. meeting with the cardiologist on wed. he's not lyme literate then again how many cardiologists are?

Right, not many cardio's are Lyme literate either.

I'm really glad to know that you have already had your heart thoroughly checked out! I hope that the Cardio appt goes well and you get good news.

Also, I think it's likely a chain reaction of increased inflammation and toxin loads once you start a new protocol. Your adrenals can also cause changes in heart rate.

Some LLMD's prescribe Plaquenil for a cyst buster...so could have been busting open some lyme cysts.

Girlie is wise .however plaquinil has a immunosuppressive quality and an extremely long half life like weeks and can effect the eyes ...plz be careful .how is your little one doing ? Have you tried plasma for spooky yet?
also some one told me that alinia was hitting bart hard and its for babs proto etc...have you considered fl1953? And have you looked at your blood via microscopy?

Yes, the half-life is 30-50 days - depending on where you read.

I had read Alinia was a treatment for Babesia (LLMD MR), but someone posted on here it was also good for Bartonella.

As a note, my LLMD required me to see an ophthalmologist while on plaquenil because of the reasons mentioned by bluelyme.

Don't you need a visual fields test - in particular before you start taking the Plaquenil?

LLMD told me the eye test is what you'll need if you're on it long term. other info i read said if you are on it at least a year. i'm sure if i'm on it for 90+ days i'll go for testing.

difficult to say what caused my big flareups yesterday as i have a few things going on. started plaquenil 2 days before. also went for my first meyers cocktail IV yesterday. also on japanese knotweed and cordyceps for the past week or so. i have lyme, babs and bart so tough to say what is actually happening but i can say the chest thumping happened when i was on rifampin/cipro, then biaxin and then doxy. it was too intolerable after a few months i lowered my doxy to 50mg 2x/day and it calmed down to where it was tolerable. this tells me i'm stirring up one or more bugs causing it. i think i'm going to have to plow through it this time and hope that it lessens at some point but every day with these episodes that can last 4-6 hours and sometimes all day are really hard to tolerate :(

son is doing well so far he's still taking doxy 100mg 2x/day and is finishing up his last dose on monday. said a few times his arms/hands felt a bit hot hoping its nothing but we'll see once he's off the abx.

I take Hawthorn, too. Mine is Woodland Essence.

I wonder if it's partly responsible for the improvement of my pulse rate.
I'm not getting the 100bpm very often anymore.

i've tried to add hawthorn a few times and the chest thumping seemed to get worse. i'm going to give it another go in a few days and start at a very low dose and work up. thanks everyone.
