Is anxiety a symptom of Lyme?

My young adult son has been having severe anxiety and some depression, fatigue, and insomnia. He has worked outside for the last 3 summers and has had ticks on him numerous times (none attached that he can remember). He never had these symptoms in high school, so I'm wondering if these few symptoms could be caused by Lyme. Thanks for any input!

Anxiety can be due to a lot of different things, but it certainly is a classic symptom in lyme patients. I have pretty bad anxiety myself.

I was super messed up with anxiety and depression all at the same time.

I never saw the tick that bit me and made the mark. I don't know if I washed it off or did it just get brushed off with my seat belt or my clothes???

Anxiety,depression, fatigue,and insomnia are all Lyme symptoms. Get him checked.

Same here, severe anxiety, bouts of severe depression, insomnia and of course extreme fatigue. As Jrpsf said, those are all symptoms of Lyme and your son needs to get evaluated and into treatment.

Can you just take him to your next appt? That's if your next appt is really soon.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I don't have any appts coming up soon, but I asked for a western blot kit to be sent to me from MD Labs. Our local lab did the wrong test when my doctor tried to order it. I figured this would be way more accurate. I'm going to ask my son's doctor to sign the lab requisition as that is all that will be needed once the kit arrives. If it comes back positive, then he can get treatment.

Welcome to our forum, I know you have been here for a week or so but I just wanted to let you know that we are glad you are here.

I really hope your son does not have lyme, but those all can be symptomatic to lyme.

I am sorry that you are dealing with it =(

Welcome to the forum. And as others have said, yes, anxiety can be and is a symptom of Lyme. Also Lyme can affect the thyroid and adrenals which if not balanced and functioning properly, can also present anxiety symptoms. However it definitely sounds like Lyme may be the main culprit for his anxiety.

When the results come back, please share with us. Even if it's not a positive result...there may be lyme specific bands that are positive - which is significant when diagnosing lyme.
False negatives are a common occurrence...so don't despair if that does happen.

Good point, Krimpet. I also want him to have his thyroid tested. My sister and I have spent years trying to optimize our treatment for hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue. Our symptoms would come and go, but never get better. When she tested positive for Lyme, babesia, bartonella, and more, I decided to get tested. I only had band 23 (igg) positive through Quest Labs and high mycoplasma pneumoniae, but my TGFB-1 was extremely high which my doc said shows inflammation. Combined with my symptoms, he gave me meds for Lyme treatment, but I haven't started yet. He doesn't follow a specific protocol and I wanted to learn more about detoxing, etc. before I start. Also, tonight our local Lyme chapter is having a LLMD speak, so I want to hear what she has to say.
