Noticing swollen joints, question about doxy dose (supposed to be starting tonight)

Hi, I am not sure if my photo will show. But I have been feeling all day like my right finger joints have been hurting all day. We looked at them and they are swollen :(

I'm wondering what this means for my prognosis or the stage of Lyme I might be in. And I'm scared about it.

I am supposed to try doxycycline tonight. It is prescribed by my primary as 100 mg twice a day for 28 days.

What do you all think? I'm so sorry for so many posts!

Do you think I might already have chronic Lyme?

You have to use a picture hosting or share site to view stuff from your computer. Photobucket, flickr, cluster, shutterfly -- those are a few.

But do not fret, symptoms do not dictate our degree of lyme. And I don't know the definition of the stages because the symptom list is so very long and it is not like cancer. It does not metastasize.

Aches and pains are part of the symptom list. And those aches and pains can be most anywhere. They will move throughout your body and be totally annoying and even can be so painful you cry.

But, treatment will help you get through this.

Thank you so much! I am noticing lots more tingling in both feet in the absence of the Ceftin and dizziness. I am just worried about mid it could be effecting my heart too. Would Lyme damage to the heart show up on an echocardiogram? I am going to try to start the doxycycline tonight. I'm scared!

What were your symptoms when you were diagnosed? Did you have any?

If not, this is a sign that it's disseminated through your body. If you did have symptoms, then the inflammation is normal, as Lyme is an inflammatory infection. It causes inflammation, which is why if we get much more, it can really affect us.

If you have heart symptoms that are concerning to you, please do go be thoroughly checked out by a Cardio doc, just don't say anything about Lyme if they are not Lyme literate. No need to start an argument! LOL!

Otherwise, if you don't have concerning heart symptoms, then there's no reason to suspect it.

If your inflammation is starting to affect your hands like that, do be sure you are addressing it, as long term inflammation causes it's own damage. Many here take some sort of anti-inflammatory, either pharma or herbal.

Yes I already had symptoms. I had called the health department after finding a second tick on me (and I did then also have a third tick) and they said to take a wait for symptoms approach. They even said don't be surprised if it's only on one side of your body. I so wish I had not listened and that I had demanded antibiotic treatment as soon as finding the first tick. But everyone I know just kept brushing it off as not a big possibility and nothing to worry about.

My first symptom was tight, sore calf muscles from walking only short distances. Then I kept noticing a sharp pain in my liver and since I have a hormonal liver condition I passed it off as that. But it was getting so painful. It feels like when you get a stitch in your side but much worse and it wouldn't let up. Then I started having daily fevers 99-100.5 degrees f. Then joint pain in my left hip and knee, then zapping sensations in my wrists and legs, and I realized a part of my foot had been feeling numb and tingly for some time, maybe a month or a little more. Then started noticing cloudy vision. I had some heart palpitations too but nothing like what I got after starting the Ceftin. I also started having random bouts of diarrhea. And pain in my teeth as well as a sore throat.

I finally stopped passing it off as just due to the hot summer and called my doctor who tested me for Lyme and also ran regular blood work. The IGM and igm western blot came back positive but igg and igg western blot was negative (still not entirely sure what that means).

Anyway, so yes I was having all of the above symptoms and more before getting diagnosed. I never had the rash. The heart stuff went all crazy after I started Ceftin - racing, pounding heart and strong skipped beats.

If I do go to a cardiologist it will take at least a month to get in I'm sure and even then, I wonder, can damage be seen on an echo?

I have officially started the doxycycline and am scared I'll have the same crazy heart stuff as I did on Ceftin or worse. But my husband and I have decided it may be the best chance at fighting the Lyme and possible other coinfections I might have.

I'm sorry this response is so all over the place. My brain is just not right since the Lyme. Oh I forgot another thing I noticed as a symptom was one day I forgot our address and then I noticed I kept opening the wrong cupboards and started saying the wrong words than what I meant to say. I also started waking up frequently at night feeling freezing cold and then I'd put on another blanket and wake back up later feeling boiling hot. And I also started moving and holding things in my sleep - something I never do. I know that might not sound like anything but to me I just kept thinking what on earth? This isn't like me! I remember waking up from a dream one morning and I realized I was sleeping with my eyes open - definitely not normal for me. And one night I woke up and was holding my iPod (it's always next to me but not normal for me to pick it up in my sleep). And now I am noticing visibly swollen joints after taking a break from the Ceftin for a day and a half.

Since this response is already so all over the place, I hope it's ok to also ask if anyone can tell me if those are all normal Lyme symptoms and if it sounds like I could have any coinfections (and if so which ones could be likely - I don't know much at all about coinfections)?
