Latest on wife in early treatment for Lyme

So quick recap wife started treating with Doxy 100 mg 2x/day a few weeks ago and is having a horrible time with it. LLMD told her to lay off for a few days and she still feels like death warmed over esp her stiff neck and fatigue. LLMD says the Doxy isn't agreeing with her so going to mix it up. She started Ceftin 2x/day and Zithro 2x/day. I'm happy with the combo approach and where one abx has a very short half life (Ceftin about 1-1.5 hours) and another has a longer one (Zithro about 57 hours for a female).

Sharing because its good to know that LLMD's don't always assume feeling horrible on a particular abx is a good thing and will mix it up to find something that better agrees with a patient. Note the LLMD didn't say she was allergic or having a side effect to the doxy just that its not agreeing with her and whatever bugs she's carrying around.

Sounds like she has a really good LLMD. I hope she does better on the new combo. Keep us posted.

This LLMD sounds very promising!

Best wishes to the wife for success with the new combo. Please let us know how she does - we're rooting for her (and you!)

You are so sweet to be writing and researching for her. I hope she is better soon. I am new to the board. Was bit July 3 or 4. I was so sick on Doxcy that I couldn't get out of bed and called doctor several times. I am super sensitive to meds. I was asked to stick with it and while it is a very harsh antibiotic I think it was bacteria and the herxs really making me sick. Unfortunately I'm still on the Doxcy, not able to do much but today is my first day without symptoms or pain. I am so happy. Tell her to hang in there it will get better. I certainly wasn't sharing this to suggest she return to the Doxcy, I'm glad she has an alternative - just to say that I think Doxcy is especially strong. She is lucky to have a great support system.

thanks everyone. per her LLMD (well its really my LLMD who works with this newbie ;) when doxy doesn't work the next best thing is ceftin. glad they added a second abx.
