Because I was seeing a LLMD before it was known how important detoxing and supporting the rest of the body function were, I wasn't doing those things - and I'm positive that not doing those things is what lead to the incredible failure of abx treatment for me. I don't blame the LLMD I was seeing, as no one was detoxing and supporting the body back then like I needed.
I can't be sure that I would have made it through any type of treatments without having heavy amounts of detoxing daily as well as a ton of support for my body. For me, that meant I had to go to an alternative medicine practitioner - a Master Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, not an MD.
Now, many (but not all!!!) of our LLMD's understand that detoxing and body system support is required for many Lyme patients, so I believe that abx treatment has evolved in a good way. No telling how I would have fared had I been using a doctor that understood these things - although I have to admit after reading as much as I have about abx use to heal these infections, I'm not impressed - and is why so many do a lot better on a combination treatment, where alternative medicine and abx are used. Not all Lyme patients require both, especially if they get treatment within that one month window when the infections are caught early.
So, yes, I got incredibly worse with abx treatments - but key factors to my healing were not being addressed.
