We discuss using herbs a lot here and how they can be as powerful (it not more) than antibiotics but I don't recall hearing anyone pulsing herbs just lowering the # of drops daily.
Is pulsing herbs considered something worthwhile doing? I was thinking of doing herbs alongside my abx regimen and when taking a break doing the same for herbs. Appreciate any thoughts thanks.

In his newer Lyme book, Buhner advises against pulsing herbs. He found that people who opted to do that often relapsed.

Pulsing is only valid for abx/antimicrobials so it depends what the herb is for. If you're on buhner protocol most of the herbs interfere with inflammatory cascades and aren't used for direct interaction with the organism. Pulsing those is pointless. Pulsing something that is a direct antimicrobial may or may not help depending on context. The idea is to kill active spirochetes, allow dormant forms to become active, kill them, repeat slowly lowering the dormant population. So if this applies at all it's only for select herbs. Herbs tend to have a lot more potential to disrupt altered morphological forms and biofilms too so I probably wouldn't consider pulsing until I've given it a fair chance on its own

I'm pulsing herbs now...I don't know if I have a choice.
i am taking Artemisinin (4 days on, 10 off) -
On the 10 days off of Art, I pulse Rifampin, and biaxin.
Someone recently posted about
Cytochrome P450 - on that list: Rifampin, Biaxin, Artemisinin, Crypto.
Doing biaxin and rifampin together is already ignoring that issue...so not sure if I should add crypto to that mix.
I thought I found a solution because I already pulse Rif/Biax - M/W/F
So, thought I could do Cryptolepis T/Th/S/S
So, is it better to not take the Crypto at all....than to pulse it? That is the question.

I was just going to post that arteminisin is one exception. There may be other exceptions, but not that I've come across in treating these infections.
As has been pointed out already, most of the herbs that are used for these infections don't directly destroy the bacteria, but prevent them from replicating, interfere with the inflammation process or something of that nature. The only herb that I'm aware of that directly "attacks" the Lyme bacteria is andrographis - but even that is not supposed to be pulsed.

Trav - Rifampin and biaxin are also on that list.
But, having said that...LLMD's still prescribe the above two together regardless of the P450 issue...so not sure if I need to worry about
it with Cryptolepis...

Cytochrome P450
Wow, I sure missed something! LOL! Even if I was here technically, my mind sure wasn't - but that's not surprising this last few weeks while I've been herxing. LOL!
I don't even remember that term!! LOL!

Information overload can really mess things up at times, right? LOL!

I don't think it's necessary. In fact his 'old' Babesia protocol didn't have it.
But, having said that, we can add to Buhner's protocols. i have been. Have just stopped temporarily while I try to sort out my schedule - there are some supposed contraindications...but not sure if I need to heed those.

In Buhner's current co-infection book which includes babesia, Artemisinin is in the basic protocol @ 100-200 mg a day. Not sure how this equates in tincture drops.

I'm pulsing herbs but I think it's because they are parasite killing herbs.

One thing we need to remember, while we may need to pulse some herbs in order to not overload the body - we don't have to pulse them for effectiveness in most cases.
I've had to stop using Cistus tea in order to finally bring a herx that only kept building under control, and when I go back on it again, I'll be pulsing it in order to avoid that herx from Hades again!
