I'm almost embarrassed enough not to type this out but I have wanted to know this long enough to press on. Can Lyme be passed on through saliva? My husband (also positive) used to share drinking glasses with his kids and I just need to know if I should worry about that. Because, ya know, I don't have enough to worry about :-)

It's not known for sure...

I know the last LLND I saw said she didn't think so.
She said we would be seeing more families with everyone having Lyme if that was the case.

Don't be embarrassed - it's a valid question.

I think you will get differing opinions from the members here.

I go back and forth on it.

lol...never thought of it that way...


But, it is different...we DO know that sperm isn't found in saliva...and although lyme bacteria has been found in both semen and vaginal secretions...I don't know if it is known yet to be transferred in saliva. It's possible that it is.

Better safe than sorry?

There was a member here who said she got Lyme from a tear drop, so I think its reasonable to think it could be transmitted through saliva.

My husband stopped sharing glasses as soon as we got his results. So scary.

If you talk to a dentist spirochetes are most definitely in our mouth...you tube dr norquist ...i wonder too as i have shared drinks with my bebe girl.. also is kissing my gf who is not treating reinfecting me ?

Thanks Simon Templar! I will watch it today. I have to say that yesterday was the first day in a long long time that I actually felt good. I hesitate to even write that word 'good' b/c I don't want to jinx it or give myself false hope but it was actually a good day. I had energy and was actually smiling. Feel like I've almost forgotten how to smile. My worst symptoms right now are Parkinsonian type symptoms, one of which is partially 'frozen' legs but I walk every day and yesterday's walk was really good. I felt like my gait was smoother and faster. And that's the second time in a week I've had that smoother walking experience. Today was not as good but I know the process is long so I wasn't expecting miracles. So a very long answer to your question is, I like Cowden so far. Because I think the Parkinsonisan are Bart related, I'm going to sprinkle some Buhner Protocol in soon, certainly Houttuynia, Japanese Knotweed and Sida Acuta. CP is very easy to follow but I couldn't keep up with the fast increases but am slowly catching up. It was a hard choice between Cowden and Buhner and I hope doing a hybrid of both is the right decision. Only time will tell. Note I also have an LLLMD appt in CT in October and we'll see what he says. I think he's abx driven though so I'm a little worried.

I give my baby open mouth kisses all the time, change diapers, breastfeed, deal with spit up, etc. Is that something I need to be concerned about? (For me or my other kids; he's the one being treated.)

So are you saying your baby has Lyme? If so, yes, I would be concerned about any bodily fluid contact. I would have anyone in the same house start taking astragalus daily for prevention.

How did you discover your baby has Lyme? Is he/she displaying signs of autism? What are you doing to treat?

I would do 'closed mouth' kisses...obviously your baby won't be...but you can and the other members of the family.

You could say that for a little while, the baby is sick and it's best not to transfer the germs (which is good practice when we are sick, anyway...whether it's a bad cold, or a flu...etc)

And bdavis recommendation of Astragalus - is a good idea.

I agree that for now, better safe than sorry. Being able to pass this through the exchange of saliva hasn't been proven, but that's because they aren't looking there yet.

Astragalus is a good option for everyone else in the house, as Bdavis has suggested though.

Thank you. I'm not sure if I can take astragalus while breastfeeding (and my other kids are 2 and 4 so I'll need to look into ages) but we will work on immune support and washing hands/staying out of baby's face.

Although you will need to adjust the dosage for smaller children, astragalus has been used for a very long time and is very safe - although please do check on how well it transfers through breast milk.

I did astragalus in tincture but hubby likes it in pill form.

Since you have wee ones you might want to find an alcohol free astragalus glycerite.

I am thinking drops (tincture) because the small dose will be easier to measure that way.

I believe astragalus just boost immune sx . And lyme evades and uses wbc to replicate so if you are gonna get it or notbimmune sx cant fight spirochetes ..my lymee doc said it can drill thru skin ,so assuming its in saliva as dentists have proven and it is in every other fluid then yes kisses with some wet can transfer it ...but mosquitos can bite one then the other or carry it themselve . You may wanna consider herbal or other treatments for the young ones ...dr j treated may kids with good results before his ordeal...see under our skin and the mandys husband started to get symptoms too...ask rikky how his wife got lyme ?

We still don't kiss or have unprotected sex or eat off each other plates or drink from the same glass and I don't have any symptoms right now.

There is no way I want my husband to get this carp! I refuse to take a chance and he is in agreement after seeing his "tough wife" cry in pain. He had never seen me do that in 27 years

Wow, PeteZa, I'm so sorry. It's overwhelming to realize what you all go through, though I considered myself more knowledgeable than the average unaffected person (having had a lot of friends with Lyme). Thank you for the advice.

So both my husband and I are positive and we are both treating with Cowden right now. Is the general consensus that we should be having protected sex, not kiss and not share glasses, food, etc?

That's what I would do.

My husband is positive - though not treating yet...so I won't take the chance of passing back and forth.

With you - one of you may be in remission before the other...and you certainly don't want to chance picking it up again from the other.

We still do kiss...just not open mouth...

Dashgirl two weeks ago I would have thought you could share kisses. As far as unprotected sex,our llmd has seen almost 10000 cases and said only one couple has it and they both remember a tick. To many other llmd's feel differently and I have seen some on this site say they got it from there spouse. Last week I met a dentist who lost his father to Alzheimer's. He was sure he was going to have the same fate. Six years ago he was told to read a book on Alzheimer's and Spirochetes. It changed his world and he has done a lot of research and now he does Ozone Therapy which I will start tomorrow. He gave me several pieces of information on different studies done by dentists showing a correlation between oral spirochetes in the mouth and Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and many other diseases including a big one in type 2 diabetes. He was very interested in the studies recently done by Dr. McDonald, Dr. Duray and another doctor whose name is escaping me now. This info convinces me that much can be spread through the mouth. I am hoping the therapy gets rid of the spirochetes. He showed me the spirochetes I had by scraping some bacteria in the mouth and has a microscope that goes 100x the power to find them. Mine was not as bad as I was expecting which means the Cowden Protocol and Ondamed biofeedback therapy I am doing must be helping.

Also a quick note, we have at least two mom's who passed Lyme during pregnancy to their children in our support group here in St. Louis.
