Hi guys, my twin and I accidentally ended up seeing a doctor who is affiliated with ILADS and is a llmd. So far he is good, but I wanted to have a backup doctor because he told my sister once that he doesnt like to do antibiotics too unnecessarily long.
Does anyone else have this dr (dr. D) or any other chicago llmd reccomendations? Thanks.

Hi jennydancingpotato...welcome to our community!

I think I'd ask the Dr. a few questions. I would ask for clarification.

Does he treat lyme for only a few weeks?

Does he switch over to an herbal protocol?

But, it is good for you to have other options.

Ideally, none of us want to be on antibiotics unnecessarily long. - But long enough to get to symptom free plus several more weeks past. (for those who choose the antibiotic route)

I agree with Girlie, you should ask the doctor some questions - find out just what he meant by that statement.

Thanks guys I am just so anxious!!!

I have years of panic disorder that was actually bart, and because of that and being my sisters caregiver during treatment for depression (including ect and ketamine) that failed because it was also bart, I am and I feel extremely traumatized.

I am so mistrustful of doctors after they misdiagnosed us for so long and I feel like I cant switch even one more time. I am so emotionally batterred im just scared that my doctor wont be good enough to get me better and I want to so badly after suffering so long. Im sad and scared and exhausted. I just want to be happy and in peace and not sick anymore. I feel like I dont have much strength left.

I'm so sorry for what you and your sister have been through.

I hope you keep coming here for support...this is a great group of people here - lots of compassion and knowledge.

I don't blame you for mistrusting Doctor's.

How long have you been treating? Are you and your sister both in treatment?

Thank you so much girlie!!! Me and my twin have only been in treatment for two months!!! I herxed too bad on rifampin so I just got started on cowden protocol including houttuynia. My twin is pulsing rifampin and is on tinidazole and zithromax.

I just have two things that bother me about my doc. Number one, he told my sister he doesnt like to do antibiotics for too long but I dont know what he meant by that. I know he does do IV, and keeps people on them for months since my twin has been on them for two months. Also, i know that he has horowitz book in his office and gives each patient a copy of dr mcfazdean's book beginners guide to lyme. And there they do antibiotics for months ir years. Numver two when my twin first started treatment she had an wxplosion of neuropathy which iv glutathione and b12 didnt help to detox, he was confused as to its severity and why they didnt help. Gabapentin he prescribed took it away but it worried us that he got confused. Thanks guys.

Maybe your Dr. is being cautious and not wanting it to be 'announced' that he does long-term antibiotic treatment - for fear of being investigated.

I don't know why your Dr. was confused about your sister's neuropathy. Herxing - timing and severity differs for everyone.

Is your sister still needing the gabapenten? Or has the neuropathy subsided now?

How are you finding he Cowden protocol?

I dont know! Maybe he meant like five years long antibiotics? Cause he misunderstood and thought we wanted to get off of rifampim after two months and was all oh no you need it longer to get better.

Me neither. I think he was confused because there was no change despite the iv glutathione and b12.

But he is good in many other ways. When my sister was in the hospital for two days he hugged us all and visited her both days free of charge. He was the first doctor to diagnose us with lyme after going to twenty or thirty doctors we didnt know he was a llmd we found him by accident. Every appt if i cry he will give me a hug and reassure me. His antibiotic regimen for my sister is good, and he does everything by the book from our probiotics to our detox to our daily glutathione, to our diets, etc. Ilads gave me his information. It was just those two things that confuse me.

I think its ok ive only started the houttuynia so far and mild herxing. Ive only been on it for four days.

Thanks!!! Yes he has been very sweet. Its just those two things that made me anxious. But of course that makes me confused as to if im over reacting. Also if i bring in articles or books he will read them with me and adjust my protocol. Like i brought my buhner herbs and book with me and he read it.

Ok so its me sorry i had to make a new account. So today my twin went to see our llmd for her appointment and it was confusing.
The bad: He told her that he doesnt know if her depression is related to her lyme and co infections. Yet burrascano, schaller, and buhner in their books/guidelines say that bart/mycoplasma/lyme cause psych issues including depression.

Then he was confused about how AC doesnt help her with her temp regulations even though buhner explains in his book how bart causes temperature dysregulation issues.

But mostly the depression thing really bothered us cause thats her main symptom.

The good:
He was really kind and encouraging and told her that he and her were going to get through this and figure it out and help her get better. He also gave her activated charcoal for the mold, added tinidazole to her zithromax and rifampin, and gave her something in case of a mthfr mutation.

So what do you guys think? Should we get another llmd since he didnt know about the depression? Also he said that the 500mg daily of azrithomycin is enough for the mycoplasma for now is this true? Help guys!!!!!!

What is AC?

Yes, these infections cause temperature dysregulation...recently mine have gotten worse...

I am mostly cold...and shivering, but then I have intermittent sweats.

Yes, these infections can and do cause depression...for a lot of us. I had never, ever been depressed in my entire life...no pms, no postpartum...nothing...until Lyme hit ...and I was both depressed and anxious at the same time.
The depression resolved on it's own in my case - even before treatment.

I can't comment on the dosage of azithromycin - because I'm not familiar with mycoplasma treatment.
I have seen 500 mg of zithro daily prescribed for lyme, though.
It has a really long half-life - so eventually you get a high enough amount in your blood.

I wouldn't switch because of that - not at this point - since effective treatment should take care of the depression.
..and you said he is kind and encouraging...that is a big PLUS in my opinion.

She says she is worried that the physical symptoms will go away before the psych symptoms and that he will terminate treatment cause he will say that the psych symptoms are unrelated even though they are classic bartonella symptoms.

You both can start on an herbal protocol any time (although you would need to be sure there aren't any dangerous interactions between the herbs and pharma. drugs) - especially if your doctor doesn't complete treatments. There are many in this community that have healed from herbs alone, and have healed from using a combo of herbs and abx.

But if your doc doesn't recognize the psychiatric symptoms of Bart, how can you really be sure that they are acknowledging all of your infections and you are getting sufficient treatments????

Exactly thats why I am confused about whether or not to keep seeing him!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhh. Hes so nice and accepts insurance and is only forty minutes from me.
My other options are another chicago doctor who doesnt take insurance and is supposedly real expensive and a doctor who also doesnt take insurance in wisconsin. Thus far these are the only two that I know of.
Yes he has me on cowden and is totally cool with us adding in buhner herbs into our healing.
I am confused also because I think he has her on a good antibiotic combo everything by the book really. Sooooo confused. Maybe I could see him monthly and the wisconsin or other llmd every few months to supplement???? So confused. I applied for lymelight too but dont hear back until the end of october.

Be careful adding Buhner's protocol to Cowden - as there is some overlap.

eg: Samento (Cowden) - is Cat's Claw (Buhner) - except with the TOA removed.

You could also just continue to see the LLMD you and your twin are seeing now, until you find a time that he's no longer actually treating you or your sister properly.

And I agree with Girlie - do be careful to investigate the herbs carefully so that you don't over-treat with any of the herbs and that there's no issues with combining any of the herbs.
