As I continue to read more and more about
this testing... why is there so many articles saying that it is faulty and inaccurate? Because it's all we have for testing purposes? It seems no conventional doctor will buy into it and people are saying it's a scam.
Could some of us be being treated for a disease we don't have?

I often times wonder the same thing. Glad you brought this topic up. I think there are more false negatives than positive with the testing. Wish there were a more clear cut answer to all of this.

"Could some of us be being treated for a disease we don't have?"
Not if you have symptoms of Lyme and a test that has at least one of the Lyme specific bands. Igenex runs the exact same Western Blot and ELISA/IFA testing as Lab Corp, Quest and all the rest - it's just that they know what techniques to use and how long to allow for the testing - they don't rush the testing and use all the right things.
Igenex got a bad name because it was showing more positives than the other 'regular' labs do - which made doctors start questioning it - those same doctors that will argue about
Lyme being real, Lyme being in the area, and chronic Lyme. What they didn't see on a fast, improperly performed test didn't bother them any.
So they started bad mouthing Igenex, instead of investigating the differences and understanding that Igenex turns out so many positives simply because they are doing the testing properly.

I am not totally convinced either way. I *personally* feel the WB picks up other bacteria and viruses. It seems that even lyme specific bands cross react to a small degree. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
I see one of the best LLMD in country. I tested positive for brucella and he told me that it doesn't necessarily mean I have brucella but some intracellular infection (like bart, ehrlichia or even rmsf which i also test positive for). While this is not the Igenex WB, it's an example of how testing is never clear cut.
Again, just my opinion. Don't kill me!

K07, have you seen this on the breakdown of the Western Blot?

Once a person has Lyme, the immune function is lowered and no antibody test will be accurate.
