Ceftriaxone in muscle instead of IV

Hello,
as I am not really getting better, my doctor decided to proceed with IV Caftriaxone. I was happy because I have read that it has helped to many people.

But when I went to pharmacy, it turned out that he had prescribed Ceftriaxone not IV but IM (in muscle).

Will it be as effective as IV? Has anybody had IM with good results? Or I am loosing time and it would have been better with IV?

I wonder if I should call him and ask if that was a mistake? Because he talked about IV antibiotics. But if the effect would be the same, then I am not bothered.

I hope somebody can help me here :)))

I read a white paper years ago stating IM Rocephin reached comparable blood concentration levels as IV. Google combinations of IM vs IV Rocephin.

Also some go the IM route because its cheaper, and then mix it with saline for IV infusion.

I think you should call him and clarify which one he gave you, because the price is not the same - if you are covered by insurance then maybe you don't care about the price, however it is important to know what he wanted to give you in the first place

Thank you! I will call him tomorrow. :) Just not so easy to reach him, as he is always so super busy.

I have insurance so the price is not an issue, just I want that medicine to be maxiumum effective. But I am feeling better already, my neurological symptoms finally going away.

The paper work on my rocephin says it is longer concentratuob given iv ...
did he prescribe to a infusion center ? Or give you butterfly needles ..infuserve america has home pump balls ..do yiu have a picc line ? Or a pirt ..how long do you plan on doing it .can you afford after the 30 days of insurance paid amount ...is it a llmd ..did he prescibe procaine with the needles ..? As long as you dont hit a vein it should be ok ..i guess its like bicillan but doesnt last as long ..im doing 2 grams and adc does have it for 6$a gram. But there is mixing it ,saline ,iv tube access..etc..i got a port as i plan on treating for a long time ...just some questions ...my friend uses butterly needles 3 x a week but my veins got mad after 2 months ..scar tissue builds ..professionals dont seem to care ..nurses are expensive too...the huber needle is like 30$ a week meds and saline heparin is like 250 a week

Thank you so much for your advice. I started more researching on internet and found out that with my Ceftriaxone IM comes lidocaine. That was the reason why I always felt like fainting and dizzy soon after the injections. My body doesn't like lidocaine, and that is totally crazy that they do that solution with lidocaine and not water.

So starting from today all my injections are changed to IV only. The nurse said she will bring a pump tomorrow, something modern. I am very lucky in the sense that my insurance covers everything, no limits. I am in Europe and have a private insurance.

I do not like to have a needle in me over night, so they will be jabbing every day... I hope my veins will be OK. Maybe I need to ask them to do in different places. I have a young girl who keeps saying that I have bad veins... but I know, they are not so bad, it is all about who is a good jabber or not :))))

I chew on licorice root to get bp up ao veins are up ..@lso salt helps ..use different sites ...you are a very lucky girl. Peopke take actigall to prevent gallstones while on rocephin...some say yes some not necessary..i asked for it
