Hi. I have found quite a few posts regarding this doctor from several years back, but I was hoping to get some general info from people who have, or are currently seeing this doc? I've read varying opinions, and I realize we all have unique needs and experience things differently, so not really looking for "personality" assessment of the doc, but more of a practical overview of the actual process.
I'd really like to know what the first time visit will be like. I will be going there for the first time tomorrow, with lab tests that were done mid-August and mid-July. Both had similar results but the Aug test only showed band 41 IGM as reactive, though for some reason the July test was reported as Positive Lyme and Positive IGG by the lab, but no detail.
I also tested positive for Tularemia, and would like to be retested for all of the other co-infections, some were not tested for previously. I just want to know what to expect on a first visit, (first to any LLMD) can I expect him to do a thorough physical exam and consultation/medical and symptom history? I just don't want to get my hopes up...I've read that he really knows his stuff, and that gives me comfort. I'm not looking for a doc that will coddle me, I'd just prefer one that really knows this illness and will take the reigns.
Thanks in advance!

Hi!
I go to Dr S near Howell. I like him very much. My first appt he gave me a thorough exam...don't expect it to be very long, but he listens....he listened to me. He is very quiet, but extremely knowledgeable. If you ask him any questions, he will answer. If I call the office, they always get me an answer right away. Dr S sometimes gets on the phone. Some of his staff were his patients that he treated. The office is very nice. I am also happy to say that I am feeling better. My igenix was positive for Lyme in June. If you have any other questions, I am happy to answer. Good luck! :)

Thank you! I've had a few recommendations for him from other sources that didn't know each other. I'm really looking forward to the visit and to talk to someone with actual knowledge. My first experience in this world was with an ID doc, who at first seemed to be knowledgeable, but exam was nil, then at second appointment I was being pushed off to a neurologist.

I saw Dr. S once. I had been searching for an answer for years and was thrilled to finally be looking at a dx. I was suffering from severe anxiety and drove almost an hr to see him. As I nervously awaited for the dr. To come, I could see him reading my records in a room across the hall from me. He came in and literally gave me 5-7 minutes of his time. Very abrupt, very hard to hear, one word answers. No thanx. Not for me. I need someone I can communicate with. He may be good at what he does but I'll never know. Never went back.

I have been working with him for about
a year. Maybe 2 months ago, I was at 85% feeling better, but then it radically went down to about
70% well-being, maybe less.
He knows a lot about
lyme, for sure. However, his method is very structured. His visits don't last more than 5 minutes. He does blood tests and prescribes different forms/combos of ABX. There is no creativity or individual approach to his treatment, and other than prescribing abx, he doesn't really push or suggest anything. If I didn't do my research, I would be taking only ABX and probiotics.
I also told him that I will be ending treatment in January because I will be abroad for several months in the beginning of treatment. At the same, he said "oh, you will be healed by then". Well, the trip is really close and I feel not much better than I felt before I came to him.
Overall, he knows what he is doing, but getting info from him is like pulling teeth. I am currently doing Buhner Core Protocol (which I really like) and will be ending treatment with Dr. S in January (when I leave). If when I come back, Im not feeling better, I will be seeking someone else.

Hi rol_getsauce - welcome to our community!
So you were already getting better prior to seeing this LLMD? Were you seeing someone else...or self-treating?
We encourage all new members to take a look through the thread at the top of the page titled: "new to Lyme?..Start here!" It's packed full of useful information.
Are you planning on bringing your Buhner herbs with you when you travel abroad?

Hi Roi_getsauce!
Welcome to our community! I'm so glad you found us!
Did something stressful happen or did you have more symptoms come up around the time you suddenly had that set back?
The other thing that is common is that as we lower the bacterial loads of one infection, others often become apparent. Is this a possibility for you?

Thanks for sharing the experiences. I saw the Dr last week and overall it was better than what I had. He does seem to have a very rigid method but I was glad to learn he was sending my blood to Igenex. I look at it this way, it's a positive step for me, considering I was left hanging by a ID doc. Because I am new to this world, I have to see what works and what doesn't, but I appreciate hearing from others (good and bad) so I at least am not blindsided.
I will post more about
my thoughts later.
