Do you ever feel like you just want to take a break from chronic illness? This is where I am right now. I just so desperately want a few days away from focusing on illness and healing. Just need a break. I don't want to take any medicine, any supplements, don't want to have to worry about detox or what I eat. I am finding myself just wanting to get away. To escape my life right now. As if I could just go somewhere and do something relaxing and say, "forget Lyme disease" for a few days.

In reality, I know my body won't like that. I have missed several doses of meds the past 24 hours, and I'm already suffering physically. But mentally, I feel like I'm going to explode if I can't "escape" somehow. I just feel so utterly consumed with my health problems that I feel like if I have to think about anything Health related for one more second, then I'm going to go crazy.

Is there any way you specifically find relief from the burden of this disease? Is there ANY way to feel not so overwhelmed? How can I get my mind off of the current problems? I am literally so overwhelmed that I feel paralyzed to doing anything healthy for myself at this moment. I feel like the negative energy from my overwhelmed mind needs to be counteracted with some positive energy. Any thoughts? Tips? Pointers? I'm so desperate.

I found busy work kept me distracted. I also am a person that loves being around water. It soothes my soul. Even if all I did was sit by a creek.

I hated constantly thinking about lyme too. It is life consuming.

Well perhaps you could look at this from a different perspective: lyme as your chance to embrace a new healthy life......so no regrets and wanting to "escape". Although I am totally there with you in the supplements and medicines part. I am so tired of living my day around these treatments.
It is just very tiring. My relief days are when I feel better....I was hoping to start to feel better....
Having lyme is like living with an alcoholic, or an abuser ....you think is going to be better the next time. You think it will change the next day...the problem is that the disease does not change...you are the one who has to change in order to progress.

PeteZa is right - it is life consuming.
I think we can all relate to how you are feeling.

I like all of those ideas. I need a schedule of relaxing things to do this weekend. Maybe go and pray or color by the creek. Listen to some music. I need a hammock. Haha.

or do what monkeys do......throw excrements (I am getting sick and tired of this site %#&* censorship) at people you do not like.

MA10 I am a person who has hard time relaxing the traditional way......so I was trying to throw other ideas.

I agree. There are ways to "get away from our illnesses" without taking a break from all the things we need to be doing for ourselves. Sounds like you have a few ideas already - good for you!!!

I still take very short trips - not long enough to increase my symptoms just from travel (I love going to my daughter's house)- take everything I need with me and "set up" there to care for myself.

While we should avoid highly processed foods, you can research a few restaurants and find one that is good, and even go out to eat once in a while for even more of a break.

I try to not be away from home much over the course of a year, but life goes on and this is one way that helps me keep my sanity and still be a part of life.

And I can't say enough about finding a hobby at whatever activity level won't hinder your recovery. Finding enjoyment in life is necessary, we just have to reorganize our thoughts about where we might find enjoyment again.

artermix, who's hating? I value your input as well.

Traveler, your ideas sound a lot more worthy than what I had in mind. I like the restaurant idea. I'll find an organic cafe around here. I really wish I could take a "mini trip." I need some connections to a lake house. haha. Perhaps I will take my camera and do some photography outside. I desperately need to find enjoyment.

This is a "family friendly" site, and that's why it's set up to automatically censor some words - although there are perfectly "safe" words that accidentally get censored as well.

MA10, All the ideas (yours and others are great). I desperately try to be "normal" and there are times where I just couch potato. Photography is a great idea. You can get out for a while and take pictures ... then work on editing them and making them awesome when you don't feel like moving around so much... if you're digitally taking pictures that is. I love taking photos. I do photography for my Aussue rescue and handle the social media... although some days I feel less than creative.

I am lucky that I can still work full time, too. A hobby, read a good book, and make sure you're socializing with friends/family. Keep it simple. -- I missed a few workouts lately with my trainer due to not feeling well. He was worried and he & his wife invited themselves over this past Sunday... I was not sure about it cause I really wanted to just lay around... but they showed up with dinner and games, and it turned out to be quite a relaxing and wonderful day. He knows me very well, and I don't worry about the house when they come over, but he was spot on when he asked if they could come over :) :)

I totally understand. Do you enjoy going to the movies? I know some people suffering may be sensitive to sound so that may or may not be an option.

I sometimes just talk on the phone and catch up with what's going on in other people's lives. It is a great distraction because I don't talk about me at all.

I like shopping when I'm up to it. Not grocery shopping, but just popping into a few of my fave stores.

Reading is another passion, but I find that I go through cycles where I just simply don't feel like it and then other times devouring books.

A trip to Hawaii would be nice but I would be curled up in a ball by the time I got there (lol).

Thanks, 3HumpedCamel and Krimper. Great suggestions. Very motivating. I am going to try the movies tonight. Last time I tried it threw me into shock, and I had panic attacks for a few days afterwards. Idk. We'll see. It seems like a good idea on the surface. Haha.

Tomorrow I plan to go find a waterfall. High aspirations. But gotta shoot for something.

MA last time I went to the movies I took earplugs and it was so much better. You can still hear but the sound is not so booming.

Maybe I am sensitive???

PeteZa, normally just regular tv is too stimulating. So the movies are very overwhelming. I should have taken the ear plugs. I'll be wound up for days! So anxious now.
