Tring to relax for healing, new niegbors 2 barking pit bull dogs are anoying

Of course my buddies came up with all the illegal bad ideas that I wont repeat - or do.

Good:

Ha, now they are barking at the guy behind mowing his lawn. Energetic critters that's for sure.

Other side neighbors' lab is awesome. He lays by the curb, yawns, slowly wags his tail at people, no noise.

astroman....I have a pitbull stafforshire mix (I am a big pitbull lover and will defend the breed)... Our dog is a family member. For real. She does not bark because she is at home with us and only barks when people come visit to greet them.
We took her to classes too...she was the shyest dog in the bunch an always afraid.

On the side note that has nothing to do with lyme....IMO not all people should own pit-bulls or any breed that has high energy (including jackrussel) or is a work dog German Shepperd or Huskies. These are all dogs that need owners with high energy and naturally need to work their energy out....running, outings. They must be engaged all times.
A lot of idiots own pitbull because it is a trend and they keep them in their yard tied and don't ever interact with them.
It is very sad.
I believe there must be a local ordinance in your area astroman that imposes the owner of these poor dogs either a fine or they cannot just simply bark all night (and this is beside the breed).
Again, not the breed but the owner.

I cannot tolerate dogs barking. The worse offender is my friend's little mix breed who is an inside dog. Inside my home that is. It has min pin in him and totally neurotic. I get the electric jolt every time he barks, which is anytime he perceives disturbance, which could be myself walking in through my own door.

I wish you all the best in getting the dog owner to do anything. Have you looked into those new ear plugs that block sound out? I've got several unopened packages of them that I'm afraid to use because of the risk of pushing the little ball of soft resin too far into my ear and having to have the e.r. remove it. I'd gladly send you a few sets if you want to email me your address.

Meanwhile, I hope none of my neighbors are trying to sleep or relax during the day. One of my miniature mares is in heat and she's teasing my stallion on the other side of the fence relentlessly. The squealing between them has gotten embarrassing. That kind of high pitched sound carries in spite of the trees and acreage between us.

Yes my neighbor had a shepperd mix that barked constantly. Dogs that bark constantly are very nervous dogs. You would be too if you were chained and could only move a radius of 7 feet.
Anyway my dog would taunt this tied dog....the two dogs showed teeth as well...which in dog language is very bad. VERY BAD.....and this other dog was a male, and my girl loves males, but not this one. So one day his chain snapped and he attacked my dog, who was chained. I was screaming and thought my dog was going to kill this dog. She did not, but she kept him away.
Then her chain snapped and she RAN toward our house door. Scared to death of this awful face off encounter This was years ago.
Eventually the same dog bit my son.
This dog needed help....like a trainer and someone who understood that he needed to get out. The family got rid of the dog. I felt bad.
My girl runs 7 miles a week in trails....free like a deer. She is so tired all she wants to do is to be cuddled and eat. BUT if I do not take her for a daily run/hike or walk after 3 days....she is not the same dog. You better believe it.

Some people are the same way.....I am like that.

I agree. I am a pit mix owner as well. These dogs are the most mis-understood, mis-represented breed...sorta like those with chronic Lyme I guess. This is my second pit mix and neither were barkers. Of course they did their jobs and barked when cars pulled in driveway, etc., but we also didn't keep them outside unsupervised. They were both well trained pets.

One problem with pit-bulls, or "guardian/herder" type dogs is they need structure and training, and they prefer to be with their people. The other problem, and this goes for all dogs, is keeping the dogs outside with no supervision and nothing to do...of course they will bark, primarily out of frustration because everything becomes a threat and they are trying to do their job. It's not the pit bull, or any other breed of dog's fault...it is squarely the owner's fault, so you have to deal with the owner.

My parents have a neighbor that had a big old hound-type junkyard dog they kept chained in the backyard. The poor thing barked all day and night. He was never a pet, never went into the home. My mom tried everything from talking to the neighbors to calling animal control. the poor dog was infested with ticks and fleas, sickly and distressed. The owners did nothing, Animal control did nothing. He finally passed, and then they got a bichon frise type dog and believe it or not, did the same thing. He sits outside day and night barking, rain or shine. My mom finally started giving him dog biscuts over the fence. She actually worked a bit to first get the dog not to bark, and then once calm she would give him the biscut. It actually worked to train him a bit to understand that quiet = treat.
