Pediatric Lyme

Hi, I know my one of kids had lyme. I suspected two of my others may have as well. Their initial western blot came back negative but had some lyme specific titers (23). I had them treated for a month and retested and the stupid ID doctor had them do the quantitative test, not the western blot, so I get even less information. I'm so annoyed! I would have never gone through the trouble of retesting if I knew it would give me no information whatsoever.

Anyhow, they seem okay, other than the random childhood colds/ear infection that pop up around this time of year and the new school year. There are no pediatric LLMD around me. I actually did contact Dr. Jones to see if he could do a phone consult but never heard back.

I'm just wondering how much other pediatric LLMD have treated especially for asymptomatic.

This friggin Lyme thing has taken over my life and I feel like I'm going to spend the next however many years of my kids adolescence worrying and wondering if we really got it and questioning every childhood illness.

My suggestions are the same as Girlie's - try an herbal protocol. If they herx, then you know they still need treatments. If they don't herx within a few months and show no signs, then you can at least breath a little easier.

I was/am in the same situation. 3 kids (and husband) pretty much asymptomatic. 2 of 3 kids had positive ELISpot test and the other had lyme specific band on western blot. Husband has bands 23 & 41 and positive ELISpot. Overall seem ok with no major symptoms, but if you look deep enough you can find some minor ones. My son had a mild vaccine injury (not mild to us, but mild compared to what others go through) which prompted the lyme testing. I was already positive at that point. It's possible they got it in utero, but all 3 were healthy babies and not sickly at all. I'm fairly certain none of them even had abx before the age of 2.

We treated them all for 1 month of abx (no herxing) and my son did an extended herbal protocol. I'm just watching them all at this point. I give them a healthy smoothie for breakfast, mostly organic/non-gmo foods, detox baths 1x a week, vitamin, and probiotic every other night.

I don't know about Cowden's, but I know that Buhner's has pediatric doses explained in his books very well.

He says on page 213 - "Children's dosages must be adjusted for their age and weight. To adjust the dose divide their weight by 160 (if they weigh 40 lbs, you would give them 1/4 the adult dose, which these doses are). And, as with adults, the protocol must be adjusted to their specific circumstances, and symptom picture/response to the herbs over time."

Yes indeed lymebug you are not alone. I also have four kids that have it with having positive lymes specific bands. two are still on abx one is just off abx and one is starting some herbals. it can be trying. And I do agree if they are asymptomatic I probably would do herbals as abx are very hard on the body. That being said sometimes we say they are asymptomatic because we have gotten used to the symptoms. For instance my second oldest daughter has had lots of issues with sore throats had her tonsils out at 5 years old but at age 11 was still battling strep throat every few months and was just tired all the time. We had just pushed it of as growing up but after being in treatment for 1.5 months some of those things had gone away that we never noticed before and have stayed away.
