anybody have low body temp?

I am usually at about 97.5 but sometimes as low as 95.4. Only been happening for the last 3 months or so. Is that a Lyme/co-infection thing?

My low body temp was due to low thyroid function. Have you had your thyroid tested lately? It takes more than just the TSH that most doctors want to test for, the T3 & T4 must be tested. Most people need their values on the test to be in the upper 1/3rd of the ranges to feel good.

Thanks Traveler! I have had the basic thyroid test but I'm not sure about T3 & T4 so I'll check that.

Yep and my T3 and T4 are routinely monitored as are my adrenals.

Yes! I feel feverish if I'm at 98.6. My thyroid tests all came back normal though.

Pmm, do you have your tests? "Normal" isn't always optimal. Most thyroid patients feel best if they are in the upper 1/3rd of the 'normal' range on the tests.

Make sure it's the FT3 and FT4 test. These are the frees. What's actually available in the body, not what's bound. T3 and T4 are bound.

I believe my low body temp was related to Lyme & cos. I found a functional medicine doctor through the Stop the Thyroid Madness group because I had virtually every symptom of hypothyroid and was convinced that was my problem. I had all kinds of thyroid tests done, including RT3 and RT4. My doctor explained that not only were my values in range, they were in the good, functional part of the ranges. He also happened to be a LLMD and diagnosed me with Lyme. What a surprise that was!

After my first LLMD retired, the new LLMD thought I might have Wilson's Temperature Syndrome and tried treating me with T3. I don't think it really did much for me.

Yes it's common symptom whether it's directly or indirectly caused by Lyme.

low thyroid function is one cause.


Mine, though isn't from that...as I have good TSH, FT3 and FT4 numbers - tested 3 or 4 times since end of 2013 and numbers are almost identical...so not even fluctuating much.

I am often around 97.3 - 97.5 degrees F.

Mine is slowly coming up. It was 96.7-97.4 now it is more around 97.4 on up and sometimes it gets to 97.8 in the mornings. My blood work for thyroid, depends on who you ask, my GP, says it is fine, so did the CMD, I can't remember who on the boards here said my results were no okay, gave a great overview. We have a thyroid whiz here somewhere. I haven't been able to unearth the science re: why lyme lowers body temperature.

yes, mine has become usually 96.5-ish. Lyme doesn't like oxygen and it doesn't like heat (per Horowitz and Burrescano). The little buggers can influence hormones and the body environment so they ratchet down the thermostat and make themselves at home.

grdner - I was thinking it must be the bacteria getting the heat in my body down making it more comfy...you confirmed it! Hate these things.

Mine used to get as low as 95.4 pretty regularly; would take my temp with 4 different thermometers because I would be in such disbelief.

Its more likely from the bugs than your thyroid. They like to perpetuate their survival by making our blood thick and cold so antimicrobials aren't as effective.

Its important to warm up when this happens as healing is not happening when we are in this state. Chinese medicine equates cold blood with severely declining health or worse.

I used to need to sleep after I warmed up a little because its so exhausting to the body to have to do this. Do you have this happen?
