What test is done for Bartonella and Babesia?

I don't know if my dr. has tested me for any coinfections such as bart or babesia...does anyone know the name of the test or how you know you have any of these?

Here is a link to the IGEN-X page on what tests to order. When I saw an IDD they ordered my tests through a non-lyme lab. Somehow, I think going through a speciality lab such as IGEN-X is favored by LLMDs and Dr.'s that understand lyme. www.igenex.com/Website/

Well, the tests are just known as co-infection testing or as Bartonella test, or Babesia test. It could say something like Bartonella henslea or Babesia microti or something like that too.

The testing is worse than it is for Lyme, so many doctors won't do tests, they will only clinically evaluate you (go by your symptoms) and you can do that as well. We have some symptom lists in the 'new to Lyme?" thread, or you can look them up online.

I did not have these tests done because of the unreliability of the test results. I read on this forum how terribly unreliable the results were from all the labs, including igenex. So I saved my money and just went by symptoms.

Now someday someone will come here and tell us how they found a reliable lab for that testing, and that will be an awesome day.

I always wonder how people self DX per symptoms, since they all overlap, also with candida and thyroid.

However, the last two have obvious symptoms changes if treated correctly.

Pain is one odd symptom, not many that had real bad pain here, the lymies I met in real life are in pain.

I've had severe pain during the course of my infections - maybe I'm in the minority? Seems like I talk with a lot of people though that have a lot of pain.

I self diagnosed, but mainly used "hallmark" symptoms to help figure it out. Seems I was pretty accurate, so that's a good thing! LOL! But I do agree that it is quite confusing!!!

I don't have a lot of pain I noticed that most of my symptoms are neurological. Major anxiety and depression. Also quick weight gain back in 2012 from 130 lbs to 150 lbs in about 3 months. Then I gained another 10 in about a year, I've since lost about 12 lbs.
I also have weird hair symptoms like it seems like it got thicker but the strands are wispier its so weird. I have noticed swollen hands from time to time. Insomnia, major fatigue, memory and concentration issues.

I really wish I could find out when this all happened. I did get bitten by a tick in about 1989. I had mono when I was 16. I was fine until I moved into a condo in 2010 when I started to experience major depression and anxiety. I had a surgery in 2011 and everything went downhill from there.
I'm being tested for mold in my body and still waiting for those results... I'll speak to my dr about coinfections I see her in Nov.

As an example - I dont know your whole story, but those symptoms you just describes are also classic hypothyroid symptoms. Very common ones. Thats what makes this confusing.

I know what you mean. With Lyme, hypothyroidism, and other hormone issues, I don't know what symptom is caused by what. Since gradually increasing my NatureThroid, some of my symptoms are not as severe. So, for me, I think it is a mix. I haven't been on NatureThroid very long, so I hope more and more symptoms improve the longer I am on it.

I've also has some severe pain with these infections....

and, even now after all my treatment, pain is my worst symptom.
