Question about CD57 number from LabCorp

Hi,
So I did two CD57 tests from LabCorp, the "Abs.Cd8-Cd57+ Lymphs" of first test (10/10/2016) is 315. The "Abs.Cd8-Cd57+ Lymphs" of second test (10/25/2016) is 406, the normal range is 60-360. Understand CD57 is just a reference, but does that mean the higher the better? Does anyone experience the same situation? I still have symptoms even with this high CD57 number.

Another question, my Potassium, Serum from LabCorp is 5.5 (noraml range 3.5-5.2), could this related to Mepron? I am on Mepron at my fourth month. Is this too high, should I stop the Mepron?

This article says that when the number goes up you are getting better.

" The good news is that for most Lyme patients the CD57+ NK level increases as treatment progresses and health is regained."

But I don't know the accuracy of the writers of this statement. I just did a google and found this article.

Often people who first test are really low - (less than 60)

Considering you were already in high end of range...I'm not sure if it's significant - the second test showing higher.


Hopefully others with more knowledge will chime in.

My first test my cd 57 is 13. 😭

Dr burrascano has a whole section on cd 57 in his guidelines

I don't know a lot about it...

So, often people with Lyme Disease will show low CD 57 (Natural killer cells)

Some LLMD's like to test during treatment - to gauge response. The theory is that as you knock back the infection and start to heal...your CD 57 should rise.

Some LLMD's don't think it's worth testing...as it's not always reliable....but others's do.

You can ask your LLMD to order the Hnk1 (Cd57) Panel test from LabCorp (code is 505026).

The CD57 test is controversial. As Girlie stated some doctors don't even test for it. There have been instances where high amounts of CD57 natural killers cells have been found in those with chronic Lyme disease, and low amounts of CD57 natural killer cells have been found in those who were believed to be in remission.

Also many labs say they are running a CD57 count but they are measuring T cells instead of Natural Killer cells (NK cells). It is important that the right test is done, as the research is specific to NK cells.

Excerpt from tireoflyme:

A CD57 natural killer cell level of about 200 is believed to be the area in which it is safe to discontinue use of a protocol without the risk of encountering a relapse.
Even if your symptoms disappear, you should still continue with treatment until your CD57 reaches about 200 to avoid a relapse.
200 is also the level where CD57 natural killer cells should naturally reside.
High CD57 levels with symptoms could be an indication that one is actually dealing with a co-infection as opposed to Lyme itself.

My doctor runs the test, but what he's more interested in is my WBC, RBC, vitamin d, and vitamin a status.

I had the CD8-/CD57 + Lymphs done and my result was 4.5 with reference 2.0-17.0 I didn't make any notes about this test when my LLMD went over my results.

Also had the Abs.CD8-CD57+ and my result was 90 with reference 60-360 However on this one my LLMD said that ILADS trained doctors consider 200 normal and 100 or below same thing as active.

Not actually sure why she did the since I had the bullseye rash and was clinically diagnosed. Oh well.

I hadn't looked anything up about these tests...it was just one of 23 vials of blood that were taken on one day.
I was so brain foggy back then that I would not of comprehended anything anyway. Thanks to Peteza for posting the link.

my LLMD tested me once for CD57 and then said subsequent ones really aren't all that useful better to spend your money somewhere else.

oh and using ranges provided by big labs like LabCorp and Quest are a complete waste of time they might as well put nothing since every result has to be put into the context of the patient, their symptoms, overall health, treatment regimen, etc. etc.
