Can Anyone Explain Eye Floaters?

Hello,

I've noticed increased problems with eye floaters, which are becoming very distracting. I have a strong positive for Bart and Mycoplasma, and my LLMD suspects Lyme as well. I've had floaters for years, but they seem to be getting worse within the last few months. I've been in treatment (varying combinations of antibiotics, antivirals, and Hydroxychlorquine) for about six months, but am currently taking a break from all antibiotics because my body cannot cope with them right now. (An aside: I've noticed that since stopping the antibiotics, my hair has started to fall out; not sure if it's related....)

If anyone can explain why these floaters might be happening--and what they could mean--I'd be very grateful!

Hopefully someone will be along that knows more about this!

I have dealt with the floaters for some time. My optometrist said it is some kind of gel that breaks loose and floats around. She said it often happens as one gets older. But I know from being on this forum for awhile that eye issues, including floaters are notorious with Lyme.

I have dealt with extreme hair loss. I think that is a Lyme thing as well.

Celie, I had eye floaters and they were so annoying. I would try to follow them and then poof, there was a new one to follow. Just annoying and mostly so when I would look at a single colored wall.

With treatment, mine got better to the point I have not thought about them in months.

Eye floaters are cellular debris. Everyone has them, but Lyme patients have more generally. This actually makes sense, since we have an ongoing bacterial - and often viral - infections.

Cellular debris is not only caused by Lyme - These infections just cause more cellular debris is all, so we notice them more, and since many of us here on this forum are dealing with chronic infections, we have a lot longer to notice them/deal with them.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied! I'm super grateful smile It's so helpful to know more information. I was worried the floaters represented a serious symptom, so it's a relief to know they're not something that could lead to permanent eye damage....

Eye floaters were my first symptom of lyme, way before I realized I had lyme. I got them at 27. I remember talking to older people about it, and they were surprised I had floaters at such a young age. They said they didn't get them until they were in their 50s.

Doctors totally ignore floaters. They refuse to research them and refuse to find a cure. They just say deal with it.

There's a gofundme page someone started to begin research into a way to cure eye floaters. I contributed for years, but then I lost my job and I had to stop. I think she's made some progress.
