Is Amoxicillin twice a day pointless?

Hi,

First off happy holidays everyone.

I'm in second month of treament with my lyme and my doctor again wants me to take amoxicillin 875mg twice a day.

She also wants me taking fluconazole which I haven't tried yet. I've been afraid to take it but considering my lack of herxing from amoxicillin I'm not sure I should be worried to take it in a low dose.

Anyway, do you think this dose of amoxicillin is pointless?

I also purchased the Lyme defense tea that Traveler talks about. Would that be more useful than the amox?

Also I was prescribed tinidazole as part of my protocol and it hurt my kidneys so the doctor gave me Biofibrin by inspsired nutrition to take for biofilm. I also have albendazole to take during the full moon cycle for parasites which is good but I can take parasite meds without my doctor if needed.

Any thoughts on this protocol?

Amox should be combined with something like Probenicid to keep it in the bloodstream longer is all. Amox's half life is just too short to do much good alone.

Fluconazole is an antifungal, so I don't think it will help the Amox - but I really don't know enough about abx to be sure. Being it's Christmas, the forum is a bit slow, but I'm sure others will be along fairly soon that know more to help out.

But, to be clear, I didn't use a "Lyme Defense tea". What I used goes by the name of Chronic Tonic. The Lyme Defense tea has slightly different herbs in it - including astragalus, which may or may not be tolerated. In chronic Lyme, it can produce some serious herxes, so it's usually left for early Lyme, or as a preventative for Lyme.

Traveler, I hear that. I did get the tea without the astragulus though as I saw they mentioned some like it removed on their site and asked them about it.

The minimum effective dose recommended is 3000 mg daily. (can go up to 6000 mg)

Usually dosed (even with the Probenecid) - 3X daily.
I took 1000 mg 3X a day when i was on it.

In that case I am really being underdosed. I think the I may give the lyme tea a shot for a bit and see how that goes. If I get another doctors appointment later and she does the same amox schedule I could ramp it up to the minimum recommended amoxicillin schedule.

That amount of Amoxy is similar to taking Doxy 100mg 2x/day. It won't do anything to completely eradicate an infection that's been in someone's for longer than a few days. Lyme moves fairly quickly to make its home all over your body hence the need for higher doses and multiple abx for anyone infected longer than a short time.

Biocidin is not equalivalent to tinadazole ...imo...the amox will keep it encysted at least
