Mixing my words a lot. Anyone else?

I'm getting worried. Have been having a stressful time and mixing my words a lot lately.

I mean to say something and an entirely different word comes out. It's a little frightening (ok, very frightening) and embarrassing.

Does this symptom go away as we get better?

Anyone else go through this?

It comes with stress, is quite common among us. I also can get to the point where I'm stuttering badly, and I have never stuttered.

Last month everyone thought I had a mild stroke, and I might have....that time it happened before I woke up though, so I don't know how stress was involved.

Yeah, today I'm having a tough time typing because more often in not I'm not talking to anyone, but typing on the computer, and my fingers go one way and I have no idea which way my brain is going, but definitely not what I'm 'saying' in my head.

Stress is our worst health enemy Huddie, I know you know that. At the same time it seems so hard not to have it, to react with it, when things around us push our abilities to handle.

I guess lots of deep breaths, deep s l o w breaths so we don't hyperventilate....and if it helps go have a good cry to release some of the pressure.

Huddie, come on over to my house and let me tell you all about mixing your words.

First, I went through menopause and boy oh boy was that the dickens with words. I sat at the dinner table and asked my husband to pass me the salt. He handed me the pepper. I said, "I asked for the salt!" He said, "no honey, you asked for the pepper." I got tears in my eyes and said, "how come you are making feel like I am crazy?"

He got up and held me tight and I cried even more....... that... was menopause.

Then years later a flippin tick gave me lyme disease.

Hubby came home from work and I said, "how was your day? He said, "fine and how did you do today?" I said, "well I went to ...... " I totally went blank. I forgot what I did and what I was going to tell him.

Again, I cried and he held me.

Dang what this guy put up with between menopause and lyme. He is Saint Papa!!!

I just tried not to talk much for a while. At work I pre-said everything in my head, used short words, or similar words for words I couldn't remember. At least its not a sales talking job.

I have this problem. Sometimes it's so bad hubby says I sound drunk. I forget what I am going to say a LOT though. Just completely gone. It's super frustrating. More often than not I just never recall what it is I forgot.

As a country boy, I love the outdoors, love to hunt. Almost 16 years ago I got involved in the political end of game management. Not to toot my own horn, but could I ever debate. Photographic memory, I knew the data like the back of my hand. For the last 3 months, people at work were asking me all kinds of questions about game management and politics.

I got to tell you, I took great pride in some stride ive made in that area. I was so proud these folks looked to me for guidance. Besides, it also took away my illness, for however long the conversation would last.

Problem though, I couldnt get my thoughts right. Id jump from one subject to the next. Id forget words, ask for forgiveness, try to move on to the next thought and forget another biologists name, or outcome of study, etc etc. Most folks were patient enough, knowing my issues, and at the end of the conversation say something like "so you mean...." and id agree or straighten them out.

Not sure if youll understand, but after the first conversation, I felt so, so...stupid. So much a failure. I worked so hard studying, learning the outdoors, learning different species, politics, finance, demographics, etc....all gone. I wasnt worth squat. But the next day, they asked again. And the next again. People kept coming for more information. Though I hit rock bottom in my mind, people wanted me. They needed to know what I knew. I still felt like an idiot, but somehow, those folks coming back for more, made me feel good again somehow. They accepted me with all my faults.

I dont worry about it so much anymore. Dont get me wrong, its very frustrating. But I get over it very fast. Im still me. And thank the Lord the people around me know it.

As has been said, this is far too common among Lyme patients that are under stress. I had it for a very long time and the kids made up a game about it when I would try to talk called "what's mom really trying to say" - it did sometimes help alleviate the stress of not being able to say what I wanted!

But, once you get out from under the immediate stress, detox, and heal, the word finding issues should resolve.

A game called "What is Mom really trying to say?" LOL! I feel like that.

It sounds like many of you heal from this or it goes into remission.

Peteza, Yes, I sound like you. It's small things like that. I had no idea menopause does that too - Oh no. I hope you got them both out of the way at once smile

Trader, I so understand. My memory and brain are so important to me. I can't imagine being like an Alzheimer's patient. Sounds like all of you deal very well and it comes and goes.

I'll keep healing and hope for the best.

I confuse the first letters of the word, for example I want to say Lyme disease and instead of that I say Dyme Lisease :D and things like that

I ordered a salad last week and asked for "salt and vinegar, oil and pepper." Same ingredients, but still lol
And just this morning, I said something to my dog that was not even close to what I wanted to say....I just looked at him and said "That's not what I'm trying to say." He didn't seem to care either way hahaha

Being overtired can also have an effect. I notice I blurt a lot when I'm overtired....absolutely no filter. I usually end up saying to myself "why did I say THAT?" It's not usually mean or cruel, just sarcastic or kidding at the wrong time with the wrong person lol

I'm with astroman....I try not to speak too much or at least stick to a script lol

Try to keep your sense of humor about it....and when you can't, come here! We're all fluent in silly talk!

This is the one remaining symptom, along with wretched pain flare, that are the most bothersome. I don't think it is all stress. I have it when I am stressed and when I am not. I am going to integrate Kudzu for inflammation. It did seem to get much better, but then I added cistus tea, and that must have released bacteria and an uptick in symptoms. It is so disconcerting but comforting to know others here have and are struggling with it as well. I wonder if it is permanent damage, or, if once the bacterial infection is under control, if it will resolve.

I agree, helpful to know it is fairly common in lyme world.

I think it must reverse or at least get better as we heal. I'm taking a homeopathic med for brain, only a week in. Will let you all know how it goes.

Gave a hood day. We may soon be writing in pig Latin.

Mine resolved, although now it's back. I found a butter knife in the frig last week, dog food in the pantry, and found a sock in my 'meds drawer' in my bedside table and have been having difficulty finding the words to what I really need to say, particularly if they come in the morning.

I've got people in and out of my house all week long right now with hubby having home health nurses and home health physical therapy, which does not help at all!! But it's likely that next week I will be having to drive hubby to physical therapy, so I'm not sure which will be worse!

Oh well, hanging onto my life lines!

Mornings are definitely tough for coherence! I use my cell phone as an alarm. When it goes off, the words "Dismiss" and "Snooze" appear on the screen. I have absolutely no idea what they mean in the morning; they don't even look like words. I have to set my alarm for every 20 minutes in case I hit Dismiss instead of Snooze so I don't oversleep!

It is frustrating, isn't it!

I can relate to all but lately to what pmm 73 said. I have always been a thoughtful person about what I say. Even when stressed, I am generally kind. Suddenly I have no filter! I will say things that come out very short and hurtful. I am sure I am alienating people. I also interrupt people A LOT! I hate this. I don't want to be unkind to people. UGHHH! Stupid Lyme!

I tried to stop interrupting people - but by the time they quit speaking, I had forgot what I was going to say!! So I became a very quiet person, which is not like me! LOL!

Yep, needing a heavy duty filter for my mouth, particularly when I'm really tired..... fortunately, I don't work, and I stay home mostly, so the only ones that have to deal with that are the ones in my home. Lol!

Huddie reminded me the other day about my congestive heart failure, and asked how I was doing with it.

It was a jolt of a reminder that I hadn't taken my lasix and potassium for quite a while and that perhaps that was why I was having more servere breathing. So I took some Monday, pee's out what seemed like quarts, and realized by the next day I'd had no breathing issues!! That day and Wednesday I went to tell my friend here that helps me about being able to breathe so much better but couldn't for the life of me remember why!! So I have never said anything. This morning I finally remembered again and just took some more.


Can you guys imagine, I mean, every one of us have this issue plaguing us more often than not, this memory/mind thing, particularly because life's stresses almost never let up, and yet still try to be quick to help people on this forum as a moderator? We have to try to sort through volumes of information we've learned, or read, in order to make our comments.

So if sometimes I make no sense at all, or my words look messed up, this is exactly why, lol!

Woo eeee. Yep. Tongue tied at one moment, brain mis-firing another where I lose it in the middle of a thought... then, for me, it's also writing. My brain skips or stops and I cannot write correctly. Ugh. How many Christmas cards had scribbles on them. Embarrassing... but at least i did them I guess.

This symptom for me has gotten much worse since starting Buhner.

I don't feel it's stress either, which is scary. I will be relaxing at night talking to hubby and it's full on... or we are socializing with friends... very relaxing times for me.

Absolutely. I am a writer for a living, and words are so hard. Speaking is hard. Typing is hard. Reading it hard. I am dyslexic at times, stutter and stammer, can't remember anything. I get lost in familiar places sometimes. When I have to talk on the phone to a doctor or something, I literally have to write out my "script" so that I don't sound like a blabbering idiot. Just today I was sitting in a meeting, and the lady was talking directly to me. Literally 20 seconds into her spill, I had forgotten what she said 20 seconds earlier.

I have the MTHFR gene, so we're introducing methylation cream to help detox the brain hopefully. I'm currently on Biocidin LSF, and it is crossing the blood brain barrier making all of this SO much worse.

You're not alone. We're all in the same boat.
