I have no idea if this is related to my Lyme or not. I have been bleeding internally since October, and as a result have been anemic. Last Wednesday the 28th, I vomited a lot of blood (estimated to be 2 liters) on my way to have an iron infusion. I was taken to the ER where I had a minor stroke.

This was at my local hospital which I love with the exception of the GI Docs. they wanted to give me a unit of blood, a scope and send me home. I elected to transer to Mass General Hospital.My biggest surprise was how open all of the Docs were to Lyme disease. Not one pooh poohed it at all. Some seemed more knowledgable than others, but all were open.

The stroke seems to have been caused by the Anemia. This should not happen to a 51 year old! Other than this and my lyme symptoms, I am in good health with perfect cholesterol numbers.

Has anyone heard of a relationship with lyme and stroke?

ShutterGy - do you also have bartonella?

I know bart wreaks havoc on our cardiovascular system...blood vessels and heart.


(It's possible lyme is the culprit, too)

I'm so very sorry to hear of this, Shutterguy!! I'm sure glad that you're okay!!

There are many, many accounts of Lyme/Bartonella and strokes. Just do a Google search - it's amazing to see so many.

Do be careful with yourself! And I hope that you have no more of these episodes!!

OMG ShutterGy! I am very sorry that you went through this. Have you been bleeding via the GI tract? I hope that your doctor is treating in internal bleeding. And yes, Lyme can cause a stroke. Lyme can block the signals to the heart and induce an erratic rhythm and it can affect the heart valves as well since they are muscles. Is it possible that your stroke was caused either because you lost too much blood or the blood did not have enough minerals?

I am glad that you are OK and let's hope that you get better soon. I am your age and I too have had my heart affected by Lyme early on in my disease. I wore a heart monitor for a month to diagnose my heart issue. It has gotten better after being on antibiotics.

Lyme bart proto can cause extreme hypercoagulation....how are your platelets ? Bee venom is a natural blood thinner ...lumbrokinase ,pycogenol may be of use and aspirin will make it slipperier ...ann corson says the more you attack proto the thicker blood gets ...
