Suspect co infections but Igenex negative... So what's my next step?
Would like to pinpoint if possible. What are the ways? Is there anything that stand out as the best for coinfections diagnostics? What is up with the microscope? Pcr?
Any help On This would really be appreciated by a lot of us. Thanks!!

Tests for co-infections are even less reliable than for Borelia. I suggest you treat them based on the symptoms.

At first I didn't test for co-infections...but when I saw a second LLND, she suggested I try a lab that she has started using. She wanted me to test for Babesia..in particular.
PCR urine and blood - to detect the dna of the bacteria.

I did the test, and also tested for Bartonella.

The bart came back positive...so after all that, i was happy i did the test.

If it came back negative...I probably would be thinking it was a waste of money.

bluelyme has been recommending DNA Connexions for testing. I think it's $500 and its for the panel of tick-borne infections. I have seen that a few more members are trying that lab as well.

DNA Connexions test. It's the most cost effective for discovering over a dozen pathogens using PCR. Try buying these tests a la carte and you'll spend at least 3x this amount. I did it and am awaiting my results should be here in a week or so.

My co-infection tests were all negative. I did as blueberry suggested, treated based on symptoms, voila - stuff cleared up.

Will the pcr test be compromised/ less reliable due to herbal treatment / abx treatment?

The trouble treating sumptoms is the vaugness of my symptoms as well as they may be being hit somewhat by amox/ bruhner- green dragon that I'm on. So I don't Have anything concrete symptom wise for coinfections symptoms unless I look back at the last ten years and that's confusing with the random pop up of symptoms( ie- hot feet for several spells is this bart or just the Lyme )( babesia petchia dots or just aging) ( slight air hunger several times spread out over ten years with one time being strong air hunger)....

At any rate I will prob just treat w bruhner herbs to see . My natro reccomends a challenge with artemisia or abab... But I'm NURSING and have for two kids while infected so I'd like to know what exactly( as close as I can) that I have and that they may have been exposed to.

PCR should not be done if you are on abx. Because abx will kill bacteria in your blood.
But it doesn't mean the infection is destroyed - it is in other tissues - but the blood tests don't see them.

Rikky glad to see you did this test. Can't wait to hear your results. Did you exercise or do the massage?

i exercised for an hour then collected the next urine sample (no massage). in terms of abx my LLMD told me you shouldn't take abx the day of the test to improve the chances of the bugs showing up.

It seems like if on treaemt less likely to get positives. Prob why I got a negative from Igenex. Wish natro mentioned this. So hard to hammer it out in one hour visits. This forum is s godsend.

I did a Bartonella test through Quest a couple of months ago. I did it because my LLND was told by a researcher that one of Quests labs was now processing Bart tests a new way. It's Quest "Focus Diagnostics Lab" in California. I don't know if other Quest labs in other states are also processing the tests the same way or if they will accept samples from out of state.
Two really big advantages of this are 1) the test was positive 2) my insurance will cover.

Giesma staining Sounds cool but would need tutorial.
The others: how do I learn about them? Do I need to be off treatment?

I don't trust any test that comes from Quest or LabCorp as it relates to checking for lyme or co-infections. Also anecdotal evidence to me suggests Igenex isn't the top game in town anymore particularly for co-infections hence the DNA Connexions referral.

I'm hearing you. Thankyou. Do you think the conexions urine test would be valuable if already doing an herbal/ Amox treatment?

I did the igenex bartonella FISH test as recommended by a lyme dr I saw based on my symptoms and boom positive. I wish this dr could treat me but she limits treatment to 1 year due to laws here in vermont. SO stupid, vermont is full of tick born illness and our physicians hands are tied to limited antibiotic treatment.
