should i still see rhumalogist

My lyme Doc dorsnt think so my my general doctor still wants me to see a rhumalogist because I had a positive ANA test and slightly elevated C3 not sure who to listen to and don't want to just waste my money any help would be great

As julymorning stated - many people with lyme have an elevated ANA.

If you have a test indicating lyme, and/or a known tick bite with symptoms of lyme, I personally wouldn't spend the money on a Rheumatologist.
save it for treatment.

Did you have any other autoimmune markers?

My regular Dr. ruled out the autoimmune diseases by doing an entire panel (this was a long time before my lyme diagnosis) - testing for Lupus, Sjogrens, RA....

there were more...but those are the ones I remember.

I would treat and retest to see if those test results change. Unless you are really having issues, I probably would not see a specialist at this time. But if it something that is going to gnaw at the back of your mind, then it may be worth it just to satisfy that.

I have positive ANA and I don't go to Rh, mainly because they tend to give steroids which are the worst thing for someone who has Lyme.

The rhummy I went to kept trying to find something autoimmune wrong with me. My tests results were "mixed connective tissue" (a bit of a non descript result). He didn't really believe in Lyme. "I guess you could have had it, since you got better" Seriously? I wasn't better! that is why I was there!! I even had positive Lyme tests in my records. After the smart remarks I didn't go back. Lyme was the only thing wrong with me.
I hear some rhummys consider Lyme since it is a cause of joint pain. I hope yours isn't as close minded as the one I saw.

I can't remember if the referrals that sent me to the numbers of rheumatologists over the years were sprung from lab tests or just wild guessing based on my pain, but that group of specialists made up the bulk of Drs. I ran all over seeing at my pcp requests, when I had Lyme all along, apparently.

The best I could get out of them, was "severe Fibrositis, then later Fibromyalgia" which was wrong, and no help.

It's a slightly different diagnoses than "mixed connective tissue", but useless nontheless.
