I just got my results detected are:

Borrelia burgdorferi F7-NSA
B. burgdorferi Osp A-NSA
Borrelia miyamotoi-NSA
Borrelia recurrentis-NSA

It does say the NSA means DNA was detected, but not of expected size. More commonly detected in individuals with long-term infections. Product size differential possibly due to: degraded DNA, mutation of species, unspecifid subspecies, other.

I've been reading about each of these and the Borrelia recurrentis is from a body louse that can cause a fever and death and is mostly found in war torn countries. I have no idea how I would have been exposed to it. I lived in the mid-west United States, in the Ozarks and for the last 30 years in California. The only 3rd world country I've been to is Brazil.

Does this mean I do have lyme or just that I did have lyme at some time? Does 'long-term' infections mean I still have all of this? Any ideas? Yikes!

Hi there. If the DNA is detected I would say it means you have it now. If you "had" lyme and got rid of it, the DNA would not be found in your urine.

Can you tell us what your symptoms are? I'm thinking the recurrentis is just another thing you can get passed to your from a tick.

I would say you have it because a) it was detected and b) you have symptoms.

Rikky I think was going to follow up with DNA C to see if you had all, did it mean a more chronic case? Vanessa I hear they have great customer service. I was going to follow-up with them as well with regard to the whole NSA thing.

Here is an article from 2012 that states it's been in the Western US for years. It states the mountains of California but I'm sure it's moved all over the state or darn near in the last 4 or 5 years.

Any word from DNA? I had a very similar result on my test stating NSA and I'm curious as to what that means.

Yep. You've got Lyme. Welcome to the club. My DNA Connexions test came back with Borrelia Burgdorferi and Borrelia Recurrentis both NSA. I think the NSA just means you've had it for a while. I was probably infected in PA.

Just got my test results from DNA Connections too, and by doing an internet search, I landed in this group discussion. Of course my Dr is on vacation so waiting for an appt next Thursday. Trying to keep it together, so this discussion is greatly appreciated, although I know my doctor knows me best and will hopefully have a plan. No one has said Lymes to me yet, but my test results are similar to yours:

Borrelia burgdorferi F7-NSA
B. burgdorferi Osp A-NSA
Ehrlichia chaffeensis

The report says NSA means "species specific target microbial DNA was detected but amplification product was not of expected size. More commonly detected in individuals with long-term infections".

I have felt fatigue, joint pain and overall water retention for almost 2 years. Never had any tick bite that I know of, and never saw any signs. It's unclear if this is related but I should add that I had to have a partial hysterectomy last year, and the Dr hoped that it would help with the fatigue (my Dr thought it was fibroids, but the ablation inflamed the entire area and then the bleeding wouldn't stop so had to remove all but my ovaries and cervix). That didn't fix the problem, and I still bleed (I am apparently one of the unlucky >.01%).

So on top of that, I am still fatigued, with joint pain and overall water retention.

Since then I have been to every specialist out there: endocrinology, rheumatology, podiatry, neuropathy... Good news is, all reports come back normal. So my last resort was this DNA Connections testing, which took 3x because the first 2 were inconclusive. The testing is apparently very sensitive and you have to follow the steps very thoroughly. Thought I did the first 2 times but... =)

I go for acupuncture and cupping for my hip and feet pain and I am told my "liver che" and "kidney yang" are all out of sorts. When I googled that, the description was like reading my story. How do I fix that? Hopefully my Dr will tell me next week.

In the meantime, is anyone out there walking the same path with me?

I"m so sorry about the hysterectomy! I've had one too, but mine had better results.

Actually, testing is NOT sensitive enough, which is why you had two false negatives. Many, including myself, have had false negatives. For me, it took nearly a year of treatment before I finally tested positive.

The reason for this is most tests rely on antibody production, which takes a strong immune system. Lyme lowers our immune function, so it can't produce the antibodies that are require for the tests to be positive. For DNA testing, the bacteria has to be in the blood or tissue that is being tested - this can be problematic because it only takes a small amount of bacteria to create a very difficult illness, and the bacteria won't be in every part of the body. So it too still gets lots of false negatives.

I would encourage you to share these articles with your doctor -sounds like they are a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, so it should make lots of sense to them.

For what it's worth, "che" is spelled Qi smile My first round of tick borne infections was treated and healed by a TCM practitioner. I healed well and quickly with her, as the support she provided along with the protocols that I used to treat the infections, and the acupuncture and cupping were some of the best medicine for my body that I had for many years. I got reinfected though, and my practitioner had to move out of state to care for her aging parents.

Not sure how I feel. Once again take expensive test but little found to explain continued flare ups. All I got was Ehrlichia Caffreensis NAP. Kinda like disappointing Igenix that was officially negative but multiple IND bands and a positive. Still not clear why symps persist after 17 month treatment. One lab says I don't have Ehrlichia but this lab say maybe I do. So far mycoplasma(a persistent bugger), anaplasma, EBV and Lyme, Bart and Babs suspected by clinical dx. I have seen improvement with treatment but I have been off treatment for I think 15 months. This has been a tough year. Once again I'm starting to doubt what is wrong. Can't wait to see what llmd will say about This result. I'm sure she was expecting Lyme, Babs, Bart to show up. Is it possible to still have symps from these bugs but them still not show up? I'm frustrated. Just venting. I'm not sure this Ehrlichia nsp result enough to restart taking abx and antifungal.

First - PCR tests are known to have high false negatives...due to the fact that the sample given needs to have DNA of the bacteria in that sample.

DNA Connexions has the reputation of being better...ie getting more positive results.
Although there are LLMD's who don't use that lab for testing.


Yes, yes it's possible to have symptoms from the bugs but they still don't show up.

Why aren't you treating if you still have symptoms?

Was the positive band a lyme ‘specific’ band?

And the Ind bands? If there were several I’m thinking there were some Lyme specific bands .

Edit - I see the bands in your signature line - 83-93 is lyme specific.

Do you have a LLMD? You may need to treat Babesia and bart if you haven’t already.

I do have llmd girlie. I expect to hear from her this week. I had seen improvement but this has been a set back year so we're looking again to see if we can pin point.

Various symps started returning this year. I had seen good improvement last year I was so excited at prospect of some normalcy returning yo mg life. Then I caught something in January. Seemed to last 6 weeks then noticed more symps I had not had in awhile creeping back. Last month full blown flare up, I just don't know what but brought all the bad memories and bedridden unable to do anything but feed the cats a couple times a day. So llmd suggested I try the DNAC test. Thanks for the replies. I did not realize DNAC also had false negatives.

Well, we usually see lots of positives with the DNA C testing, but there have been some negatives, too.

Llmd recommending restarting treatment. Got to get go in better shape before I start throwing and at it again.
