Ya it's a good basic scope.
You can do regular brightfield with it, and thus can do some nice staining as well. Should have no problem spotting Babesia, Bartonella, Anaplasma, parasites, etc. Should also be able to see spirochetes at 1000x under oil immersion, though not in as much detail as darkfield.
You can also do low magnification darkfield.
You won't be able to do high-mag darkfield, but the 20x eyepieces might make the 400x darkfield half-decent for looking for spirochetes. Not sure, blue would know. If you wanted to do 1000x darkfield, you'd need an additional condenser, and you'd need to upgrade the 100x objective. May also need to upgrade the light source. It wouldn't be cheap.
The objectives aren't plan achromats, but it's probably not a huge deal. The edges of the image won't be as in-focus as the center.
Some people will say that these Chinese brand microscopes should be avoided, but I've seen some really nice videos online of people using AmScope.
If you're looking to get into microscopes, this is a legitimate way to do so.
You may be able to find some better deals on used American Optical's or Bausch and Lomb's on eBay, but it's hard to know the condition sometimes with those older models.
