Planned pregnancy after being treated for Lyme disease

I haven't been on this forum in what seems like FOREVER. Which, is a good thing I suppose because I am feeling SO much better after being treated for close to a year now. I have done multiple rounds of antibiotics since June of 2016 and I am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel I feel 100% better than I did with a day here or there that I don't feel my best. I am finishing up 2 more weeks of an herbal protocol and I 'm hoping my LLMD will allow me to finish all protocols! I was diagnosed with Lyme as well as b. henselae (bartonella).

I'll try not to make this too long, so I'll get right into it. My fiance and I are getting married in May on short notice due to an illness in the family and we wanted to start planning on having children in the fall. I asked the LLMD the last time I had seen him in January regarding pregnancy and lyme he said that they can treat during pregnancy with Zithromax and one other I can't for the life of me remember what it is. He said he wanted to recommend me to see a "High risk pregnancy obgyn" who will treat Lyme which is wonderful! It's hard to get any drs to treat you appropriately for lyme in the first place but an obgyn is even better. The downfall is, this dr is 4-5 hours away in another state and if there are any mommies out there, I'm sure you all know how often you need to be seen when pregnant.

My question is, has anyone been treated while pregnant or knows of any obgyn's in the NY/Long Island (possibly on the eastern end) who will treat with antibiotics for Lyme when pregnant even if symptoms of lyme are gone? Trust me when I say I really would prefer not to take antibiotics anymore but I don't want to risk any lingering infection to cross over into the placenta as I know it is possible.

Well, congratulations on so much good news!! Getting married, feeling so good, and planning a pregnancy!!!

I don't have any information on an OB/GYN - we definitely need more of them that know how to treat Lyme though!

One more thing to add to your to-do list - be sure to have the baby's cord blood tested after they are born. Nothing like confirmation that it all went as planned and your new baby is free from these infections - or if they aren't, at least you will know for sure.

Firstly, what great news It is good to hear!!

I am not in the states so I can't recommend a doc, but I did just want to let you know that I gave birth in December and my wee man is doing just great so far

I posted a thread here a week or so back with more info on it that you can have a read over ('I am back and I bring news'), so I won't repeat myself but it is there if you want to read it??

Mine was an unplanned pregnancy - I shouldn't have even been able to conceive, lol. I was on herbal treatments through out. I have been in Lyme treatment for a couple of years - it took me about 18 months to even get a diagnosis and by the time I did I was really quite sick. I am not quite symptom free and wouldn't have chosen to get pregnant because of this, hence the precautions, but the universe obviously had other plans??

I had a great obs/gyn doc (not Lyme literate) and although the pregnancy wasn't fun - I am not saying I would have enjoyed it if I didn't have Lyme, but I don't think it helped either :P - everything went fine.

I know there are other parents on the forum who will be able to help/advise you too, but I will be happy to give you and info I can, or offer up my 'pearls of wisdom' for what they are worth....just shout!

Many docs use amoxicillan during pregnancy to prevent transfer. ..my sis had her third child not treating ...he is having some developmental issues..i wounldnt wish this on my worst enemy much less my child ...i was not treating during my daughter conception and she has some odd symptoms but i see the world thru lyme colored glasses now ..i plan to test her soon via dna connexions

chistie of justinandchristie.ca had a healthy child after treating for 4.5 years ...not sure if she was on prophalytic abx but she did treat proto extensivley
