Well, wow, I just don't know where to begin! I have been seeing a PA in my GP's office. I've started having dizzy and near-fainting spells back in November and now lower limb weakness and muscle aches and pains all over. An EKG showed an AV block. Well, I became worried about the possibility of Lyme Carditis so I decided to brave it and tell him of my Lyme history. BIG, BIG MISTAKE. Now he is demanding that I sign a release so he can obtain my records from my LLMD. I refuse. This has me so upset as I am right in the middle of getting cardiac workup for possible AV block while at the same time worried about Lyme Carditis which could kill me. I haven't been on abx since fall of 2014 and have been doing well until this past November. I am not sure what his plan is but he has made it clear that he does not condone the treatment of Lyme by anyone other than an Infectious Disease doctor. Has anyone else had this type of problem? I feel caught in a trap and I refuse to give in.

Don't give in SouthernChick! I know of no law in the land that say you have to reveal your treatment from another dr.

And actually I had the opposite happen. My Internist actually called an LLMD in our State and tried to make an appointment for me! LOL. Freaked that LLMD's office right out. My doc didn't realize they don't, or this one doesn't take insurance (Medicaid on my part) so I can't use him.

But, if you have to avoid being bullied and pressured by anyone, walk out. There are more Dr. fish in the sea.

So all Dr's don't have access to your medical history?

Up here - it's accessible - everything is in the database. (Except ND's appts/treatments)

No Girlie. In this country we have what is referred to as "Hipaa" law.

For our protection, except for in a situation of legal matter for Police, we have to sign a release form if we want one Dr. to share our info with another, or another agency, including Government agencies.

In cases where you see more than one physician in a large clinic, including a large clinic that is owned and operated by a Hospital like in my case, our medical files are in a data base but even in that case I'm not sure if permission has to be given to access them. I signed papers many times for my records to be shared.

Southern Chick-Just by a very lucky fluke when I chose to see a cardiologist to verify that Bart had not damaged my heart muscle the second one I called that was covered by my insurance was Lyme friendly.

I would ask your LLMD if he knows of a Lyme friendly Cardiologist and go there. You don't need to deal with someone who's going to question your and your doctor's actions. I know my LLND has sent other patients to the cardiologist I saw. If your LLMD doesn't know of one ask around facebook support groups for your area or a state Lyme assoc, anything you can think of.

I would second what jrpsf said if you can - get your LLMD to put you in contact with a cardiologist who will work with your LLMD.

In Greece we carry our own medical records they are never held by a doctor. It sounds like an odd system but it means you are responsible for what access you give any doctor to them.

I understand how upset and frustrating this must be for you.Don't give in to being bullied, southernchick, you are responsible for your own body and health and only you can make the decisions that you feel are right for you. Good luck!

Agreeing with the others are saying - don't give in and find another Cardio! If your LLMD can't help, email me and I"ll send you the name of at least one Cardio on my list so that you can call them and ask if they know of a LLCardio in your area.

I've been thinking about this...and maybe I'm not correct that all Dr.'s have access to my information...maybe it's just the Dr's in the clinic I go to...

I have a 6 month check up with my Cardiologists coming up this month. I had been wondering what information to share with him. I have tachycardia, and he said a slight leaky valve that he just wants to watch. But I have went down hill so much since I have seen him, loosing 25 pounds since January, I know he's going to be asking questions. Do I share anything?

What I did when I went to specialists...is share the symptoms...but don't dwell on lyme disease.

I have mentioned it to both the Neurologist and Neurosurgeon that I saw.
Both of them were receptive...(probably patronizing me - but it's better than arguing I don't have it)

My GP is supportive...but I only share little snippets...because she isn't knowledgeable about it..and I don't want to hear any lectures from her.
I do go to her for any issues that crop up...
eg. My right shoulder - woke up one morning with excruciating pain...saw her...she gave me a topical anti-inflammatory to use... I didn't mention lyme because it really wouldn't have changed anything.

Thank you Girlie - ya, I've learned not to mention Lyme, which is such a sad thing, but every time I go to this Cardio, I have to fill out a medicine/supplement chart of everything I'm taking. Do I not mention anything that I would be taking for Lyme?

the better doctors if they don't understand lyme (which is pretty much all of them) will not question your diagnosis but will look at your systems and tell you whether there's something functionally not right. it up to you to posit what the root cause is if they don't find anything.

unsure why he wants your records since he isn't treating you for lyme and his opinion is just that. this doc sounds like a piece of work and a little too uppity for my tastes.

I pity the Dr who comes at me with that one Southern Chick. I only hope it's on a day that I feel good enough that I have both barrels to let loose on him (or her)

You know we pay them and they are not gods and sometimes they need to be reminded of that.

Personally, I'm with you VCL - and I have had doctors ask me to leave. No problem, once I"m done talking!! LOL! I get (gently) teased by some friends that doctors lock their doors when they see me, because I'm so hard on them -but, Dang!! Aren't they there to HELP us? And it IS just their opinion after all. If they don't know the REAL facts about these infections, I just tell them that if I was seeing a doctor for herpes, would they be that insistent? LOL! Never mind that I do have HHV 1(the one that causes cold sores), am a carrier of HHV3(chicken pox), and have HHV4 (EBV).
