Stopping Antibiotics ,need herbal advice

I have decided that after almost a year of being on antibiotics that my body needs a break. It was not an easy decision but I feel I have reached a point where I may not improve any more and they are playing havoc on my body. I would like to start taking herbal supplements to help my body recover . I understand peoples options about herbs versus antibiotics vary ,however I am on some really strong immune system suppressing medication for another health condition> I feel my body needs a break from everything. Can anyone suggest a starting point or a few supplements to start out with? Thanks.

I would encourage you to look into Buhner's protocol as it can be easily tailored to personal needs - and he explains what each herb does so you can be sure to avoid what you need to avoid.

Seems you should be very careful to avoid all herbs that would increase your immune system - but please do realize that this will make it hard for your body to recover from these infections. You may be better off to contact one of Buhner's herbalist and get direction from them, considering you need the immune suppressing herbs. That adds a special need to the healing of these infections.

You might want to look at Rawls book Unlocking Lyme. He favors Buhner over antibiotics, but does discuss when antibiotics are needed and suggests going on and off. He goes into detail about the herbals. I haven't finished it yet, but he also gets into diet, stress, and everything most LLMD's have mentioned.

One year on ABX is not that long, but I understand your frustration. Take a short break an then maybe start weaning down ABX while you ramp up on Buhners core protocol. I think he wrote in his first book that ABX may still be needed.

Also its hard to improve with Lyme until Bart and Babs co-infections have been treated as well.

I love the book Unlocking Lyme. It is written by a doctor that got lyme and he basically did Buhner's protocol. He gives his protocol in the book. It is a very easy reading book.

I gave up on antibiotics after 1 month. I got so sick. So you have given it one heck of a try. Good job!

I healed with Buhner's and Beyond Balance. I like how you can tailor your herbs to your personal situation. We are all different and lyme affects us all differently, so different amounts and types of herbs are super helpful.

Thank you ! I will look into Unlocking Lyme and Buhner's protocol . I appreciate the tips. I may end up going back on antibiotics at some point but I want to give my stomach a little break. It definitely makes it harder to fight lyme when you have to suppress the immune system.

Always good to listen to one's body, plus you know it better than anyone else. There are a lot of good herbal protocols out there, including those mentioned above. Also Zhang herbs and Cowden, I like those as well.

And like you say you can always revisit the antibiotics down the line. But if you are burning out your body or plateauing on the abx it makes sense to me to try another avenue for a bit!

yeah im not sure it is a great idea to take some of the herbs if you also take immune supprressing drugs. some/most of the herbs are immune stimulating so they may interfere with your medication. i would be very careful and ask a herbalist LLMD, not do this by myself.

may i ask what kind of immune suppressive drugs are u taking?

Some of the herbs are immune modulating, so while they don't stimulate necessarily, it's still a good idea to work closely with someone that knows these herbs to help you in the dosing at least, so that whatever it is that you are needing the immune suppression for won't flare back up while trying to treat these infections.
