Vision black out, trip to ER

Tonight while sitting, my vision went black for one second. I DID NOT faint. Scared the heck out of me though. My gut said go to the ER, so I did. I had a massive panic attack (no heart palps) on the way there, was dizzy, nauseous, and a mild headache. After 6 hours in the ER, blood work, vitals, urine sample, CAT scan...they said I have "high leucs" (I guess that means, leucocytes?). I don't know what that means. Doc said it sounded like a partial fainting spell and to just keep an eye on it. Nurse said I might also have a pre-urinary tract infection. Doc also said the vision black out could be a virus somewhere in the inner ear - makes sense since I've been stuffy for weeks.

Has anyone else had vision black outs? I felt mostly good all day. Still not on any lyme killing herbs. Gonna see my LLMD on Friday. Will post an update.

I hope you feel better now, I know that can be so frightening. when I had severe neuro symptoms I had a black curtain come down in vision and I felt like I was going to faint/pass out.
I also had sides of vision feel like they are closing in.

Im not sure what High Leucs means can you go to ENT to get ear checked out to make sure if it is ear issue?

Yes Kristen, I've had the curtain black out and lightening flashes. Very scary.

They are resolving with treatment although my overall vision is greatly dimished.

That sounds very scary, I'm sorry it happened to you. I have never had a vision black out but one time I had huge bright flashing in one of my eyes. My LLMD asked to see an eye doctor and mine said that it is a sign of your retina tearing. So I guess mine tore a little bit but then the pressure was released and my eye was okay. I did see some flashing for about a week or two after. My eye doctor said if it happens again to get to the eye doctor ASAP.

Not sure if that helps.

I've had vision black out and the flashing lights and all kinds of things - but it was usually just before I passed out. Do be sure to tell your LLMD, as Bartonella can affect the vision in different ways. You may wish to have your eyes examined to be sure that things are okay there too - but see what your LLMD has to say.

A little more wide-eyed this morning, I looked up high-leucocytes and it can mean a urinary tract infection or inflammation of the kidneys or urinary tract. I'm going to take some olive leaf and do a general UTI protocol (cranberry etc). I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound a few months ago and they looked at the kidneys, I recall them being fine. I think, anyway. Will ask my LLMD.

Thanks for responding everyone. It was scary and I HATE HATE HATE the ER. 6 hours in one of the nicest/richest hospitals in the county. It's unacceptable - and they have a new, massive ER too. Makes no sense. I remember it being 6 hours 20 years ago when they had a tiny ER department.

Oh and as a side note, I made sure NOT to mention I had Lyme, just as an experiment. I think it's a safe thing to do the way people are about it. It's sad it has to be that way, though.

I also got a prescription for meclizine - I don't know what it is, but I'll do some research and am going to flll it just to have on hand for emergencies.

Meclizine is an antihistamine: /www.drugs.com/meclizine.html

Unfortunately, I believe you made the right choice in not saying the "L" word (Lyme). Too many people get completely dismissed when they say they have Lyme.

I woke up 80-90% blind in 2008. The world was like night, could see just barely, not blury just very dark. I turned the bedroom light on, stood on the bed and stared at the light .

Vision came back completely in a day and a half or so. Didnt bother with ER or any Dr, I figured they would be cluless - just like with the other symptoms, falling over , bad reflux ect.

I gave up on Drs then, figured I would never see 50, but a few years after started googling lyme around 2010.

That's horrible! Am I right in assuming it came back? If yes, what helped? I'm so sorry. That must have been terrifying.

I went out side and looked at what I figured was full sunlight and a sunny day. More like a full moon. Went back in and layed down for the day.

I took nothing, left it on its own course since it atarted to get better.

An eye Dr years later, figures it was disruption to the eye nerve. Just a guess. Never occured again.

Glad you're doing better today. What a scary experience!

Sounds like the ER visit went OK and you're right about the ridiculous wait (the reason it takes so long now is PAPERWORK.) and to avoid a Lyme discussion. Also - for others reading, be very careful about sharing information that might lead to a "psychologically"-related concern on the part of the ER staff… unless there is a real issue going on. By law, they have to take action and sometimes it can be very challenging to communicate effectively so just keep that in mind.

I think you might do well with liver/kidney support - are you on anything like milk thistle seed and/or burdock root? Might help.

I also wanted to share that right before my grand petite (very small) seizures, my eye sight goes black (although I think it's my eyes closing). Just wanted to share another perspective.

And you also might consider consulting a neurologist (Lyme-friendly, if you're lucky enough to find one). Can rule out inner ear issues and a few other eye-sight-related neuro issues.
